PM Lee Hsien Loong was in Ang Mo Kio this morning as part of the annual tree planting day but one interesting observation was that Dr Koh Poh Koon AKA "The Son Of Punggol" was also in the entourage working with residents.
Dr Koh, the losing PAP candidate from the Punggol East by-election in January last year, was seen talking to residents and helping out alongside PM Lee in Ang Mo Kio.
When asked by the media, Dr Koh explained that he had been invited to join in the activities there by Mr Seng Han Thong, another MP from Ang Mo Kio GRC.
It is understood that Dr Koh also stepped down from his position as the Chairman of the PAP Punggol East Branch today as well.
He indicated that he would be spending more time on the ground in Ang Mo Kio to see where he can contribute.
While he did not officially say that he was moving to a grassroots or PAP branch office leadership position, his indication that he would spend more time here in the future has some netizens speculating he will contest in Ang Mo Kio in the next GE.

Dr Koh, a colorectal surgeon, was first brought into the political spotlight when he was suddenly parachuted in to contest at the Punggol East by-election last year.
During that time, he was constantly accompanied by DPM Teo Chee Hean throughout campaigning. However, he still lost to WP’s Lee Li Lian.
It seems that now, he may have another chance to get into Parliament and collect an extra 15k salary at taxpayers’ expense; this time, with the help of PM Lee Hsien Loong and a whole GRC.
The voters already decided once that they did not want Dr Koh. Will the residents of Ang Mo Kio say the same if Dr Koh is indeed fielded as a back-door MP under the wing of PM Lee?

Worse than his gaffe of saying that "everybody has a car" perhaps is his own self-declared title of "Son of Punggol".
At the time of the by-election in Punggol East, Dr Koh had insisted that he would stay on and serve the residents of Punggol East whether or not he was elected to be their MP. He had highlighted that he was a "Son of Punggol" and he would serve the residents no matter what.
It seems that he may be going back on his words now for the chance to get a seat in Parliament.

You wonder why would a successful, assuming he is one, would want to run for office? It is not the $200k allowance that attracts him. It is the $50 million that every cabinet minister will earn that makes him willing to ditch his medical career for the political one.

Sorry, my error, from Wikipedia, he's not burnt by cab captain, that was the previous incident.

In May 2006, Seng was attacked by a constituent of his, a 74-year old disgruntled former taxi driver who felt that Seng was not taking any action to help him regain his lost taxi licence. The man later made a public apology to Seng, and the charges were dropped.[4]

In January 2009, Seng suffered another attack by one of his constituents; a 70-year old man set him on fire by pouring paint thinner on his back and then igniting him with a cigarette lighter.[5] The man was believed to be mentally ill. Seng suffered burns to roughly 15 percent of his body, and received treatment at Singapore General Hospital.[6] He took time off to recover from his injuries, and resumed his duties in July 2009.[2]

In 2011, Seng became embroiled in a racism controversy when he posted comments online regarding the transit crisis in Singapore. Mr Seng said on Blog TV.SG that "I noticed that the PR mentioned that some of the staff, because they are Malays, they are Indians, they can't converse in English well enough

MPs who dare not stand in an SMC don't deserve respect. These include TPL, Hri Kumar Nair, Intan Azura, Janil Puthu, Vikram Nair. Until these MPs fight and win their battles, they lack credibility and what they say are empty noises
