Defense Ministry: Seaborne Bulava ICBM demonstrates required precision in test launch
13:39 October 30, 2014 Interfax

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov has lauded the Wednesday test launch of a seaborne Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile.

"The warheads were delivered to the designated area with a required precision. The missile launch was detected by the Pechora post of the missile attack warning network. We have thus made a comprehensive check of that [radar] station as well," he said.

It was reported earlier that the strategic nuclear submarine K-535 Yury Dolgoruky of Project 955 (Borei) on Wednesday successfully conducted its fifth launch of Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) at Kura firing range in Kamchatka.

"The launch was made from Yury Dolgoruky submarine in submerged position. The missile flight trajectory parameters were duly observed, and the warheads successfully reached Kura firing range in Kamchatka," Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told Interfax.

The lead submarine of Project 955 Yury Dolgoruky was laid at Sevmash shipyard in 1996, launched in April 2007 and assigned to the Navy on January 10, 2014 together with Bulava missile system. It belongs to the 31st submarine force division of the Northern Fleet home-based in Gadzhevo.

The first test launch from Yury Dolgoruky and the 15th of Bulava was made on June 28, 2011. Two months later, on August 27, the maximum range of the missile was tested. On October 28 the sub again fired Bulava. The 18th launch of two Bulava missiles was made on December 23, 2011.

A total of 21 launches of Bulava have been conducted since the beginning of testing, eight of which failed. The previous successful launch was made in the White Sea on September 10 from Vladimir Monomakh nuclear submarine. According to an Interfax-AVN source, the final and third launch of Bulava will be conducted in November by K-550 Alexander Nevsky.

R30 3M30 Bulava (SS-NX-30 according to the NATO classification) is the latest Russian three-stage solid-fuel missile designed for advanced nuclear submarines of the Borei project.

The missile is capable of carrying up to ten hypersonic independently-targeted nuclear warheads capable of changing their flight trajectories and hitting targets at a range of up to 8,000 kilometers. Bulava is expected to form the core of the future grouping of Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces until 2040-2045.

The Yuri Dolgoruky (K-535) submarine fired the missile on Wednesday. All of the Bulava’s warheads hit the Kura test range in the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian the Far East, according to the ministry.

“The actions of firing of the missile by the commander of the vessel 1st Rank Captain Vladimir Shirina and the Yuri Dolgoruky’s crew are assessed as professional and competent,” a statement from the military’s press service said.

It is the first time that such a test was carried out with a full load of Bulava missiles present on board the submarine, TASS noted.

With an operational range of 10,000 kilometers, Bulavas are able to carry 10 hypersonic, individually guided, maneuverable nuclear warheads with a yield of 100–150 kilotons each.

Borey-class “stealth” submarines have been designed to become the backbone of Russia’s sea-based part of nuclear deterrent, with Bulava being its nuclear weapon of choice. The missile has a somewhat troublesome testing history, with technical glitches plaguing some of the early launches.

By 2020, the Russian Defense Ministry plans to have eight Borei-class submarines.

The subs feature several characteristics superior to any submarine currently in service, such as the ability to cruise silently and be less detectable by sonars.

Launched in February 2008, Yuri Dolgoruky joined the ranks of Russian Navy in 2013.

The Bulava (Russian: Булава, lit. "mace"; designation RSM-56, NATO reporting name SS-NX-32, GRAU index 3M30) is a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) developed for the Russian Navy and deployed in 2013 on the new Borei class of ballistic missile nuclear submarines. It is intended as the future cornerstone of Russia's nuclear triad, and is the most expensive weapons project in the country.[6] The weapon takes its name from bulava, a Russian word for mace.

Designed by Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology, development of the missile was launched in the late 1990s as a replacement for the R-39 solid-fuel SLBM.[5] It is expected that the first three Borei-class submarines will carry 16 missiles, while the following five vessels will carry 20 missiles. Development and deployment of the Bulava missile within the Russian Navy is not affected by the enforcement of the new START treaty.[7]

The missile's flight test programme was problematic. Until 2009, there were 6 failures in 13 flight tests and one failure during ground test, blamed mostly on substandard components. After a failure in December 2009, further tests were put on hold and a probe was conducted to find out the reasons for the failures. Testing was resumed on 7 October 2010 with a launch from the Typhoon-class submarine Dmitri Donskoi in the White Sea; the warheads successfully hit their targets at the Kura Test Range in the Russian Far East.[8] Seven launches have been conducted since the probe, all successful. On 28 June 2011, the missile was launched for the first time from its standard carrier, Borei-class submarine Yury Dolgorukiy, and on 27 August 2011 the first full-range (over 9,000 km (5,600 mi)) flight test was conducted. After this successful launch, the start of serial production of Bulava missiles in the same configuration was announced on 28 June 2011. A successful salvo launch on 23 December 2011 concluded the flight test programme. The missile was officially approved for service on 27 December 2011,[9] and was reported to be commissioned aboard the Yuri Dolgorukiy on 10 January 2013. The missile did however continue to fail in the summer of 2013 and was not operational as of November 2013.[10]

10 nuke warheads @ 150 kilo ton TNT equivalent can flatten SG 10X over from range of 10,000km from a sub below the surface of sea. This is the distance from approx London to SG. That is the sub from Europe with just only one single missile can level SG plus 9 other near by cities at a single launch.

That sub can carry 16~20 such missiles.

Putin is constructing a full fleet of these new subs.

Already known 10 of such subs seen in wiki

** The Project 955, or Borei class, is a forth-generation nuclear-powered missile submarine. The Borei class will replace ageing Russian Delta III, Delta IV and Typhoon class ballistic missile submarines and will form a core of Russian naval deterrent.
** First of the class, the Yury Dolgoruky was laid down in 1996. Production of the vessel suffered severe delays due to funding problems. It was launched only in 2007. It is the first Russian strategic missile submarine to be launched since the Soviet era. It is also considered a milestone in the development of the Russian navy.
** Russian Navy plans to operate a total of eight Borei class ballistic missile submarines by 2020.
** The Borei class submarine carries Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile, which is a naval version of the SS-27 Topol-M. The Yury Dolgoruky will carry 16 of these missiles. It is worth mentioning that there development of Bulava SLBM was plagued by setbacks, as there were numerous failures during Bulava test launches. The Bulava (NATO Designation SS-N-30) ballistic missile has a range of 8 000 km. This submarine was expected do be commissioned in 2009, however as of early 2009 it was not fitted with missiles.
** The forth submarine of the class is built to Project 955A standard. These boats will have numerous improvements and might have different hull shape. Improved boats will carry 20 ballistic missiles. Borei has about half the displacement of the Typhoon class, however will carry a similar number of missiles.
** This forth-generation nuclear missile submarine is less detectable to sonar than it's predecessors. Other advancements include a pump jet propulsion. It is worth mentioning that the Borei class is the first Russian submarine with such propulsion system.

Very impressive. But, how many can he sell? What is the "sales' value compared to products like Coca-Cola, Big Mac, or Ben & Jerry?

dont think US sell much crap either, most of their profits come from finance sector and financial manipulation.....and probably a large chunk from military and military experimentation.

In this world top line strategic weapons are not for sale. Always only own use.

2nd lines can sell to stragegic alliance e.g. PRC

Thrse can whack Irael without sailing subs to leave Russia at all.
Just from sub bases can directly hit Israel.

1 single missile can level 10 cities in tiny Israel.

But being too close to Israel the Palestinians will also be killed by the same hit.

Similarly JB will die also when nuke SG.

Don't know much about financial manipulation (its probably crooked), and finance (other than drawing cash from atms), but I see the brands of products on the market, and majority are Yankee originated. The money must be going somewhere.

Cheers!

I do not know about how other people think, but from what I see, sales figures mean revenue. The US is already selling F-35s no matter how fucked up that piece of shit is. Has Russia or China sold any stealth fighters? Let's get real. No major country is going to fight with another country. There's too much to lose. They'd rather do business and gain wealth. Any fighting will be with disgruntled groups like IS.

Cheers!

Friend, that's not going to happen. The only ones who wish to hurt Israel are some of the angry Palestinians. Russia has got other problems to work on.

Russia PRC or any power which needs a bloody settlement with USA can utilize Israel or Japan or both as a proxy war field to ply for blood. Exactly just the same way as the historic Korean and Vietnam wars. Israel is good because it also settles business with the Muslim world and switch Jeruselem control or destruction by nuke to crush Christian spirit.

Ultra strategic ultra effective ultra useful and almost no way to avoid. It will happen in a matter of time.

think about it,what sector is the biggest in the richest first world countries?its overwhelmingly the finance sector.whether its USA,or London or Singapore or swissland.what does the finance sector do?absolutely nothing.they create money out of thin air, they control every goods every commodity every real estate in the country so they can make a profit out of it simply by buying and selling but not producing anything.ask urself, why does Singapore need 1 million shitskins in our country?to grow our finance sector, finance is the most profitable sector of all,the fucking economy of SIngapore is based on wealth manipulation,we dont create nothing,we dont manufacture anything,we dont grow anything on farms,we dont innovate anything,we dont create art or music or films or anything pop culture for consumption, our country has no natural resources nothing, our country is based on sucking wealth from others,we even suck wealth from our own people and import more people so we can suck wealth from them.

think about it how is america such a fucked up country whose economy is floundering and doesnt produce anything of any value still remain at the top?u never heard of anything made in america anymore, everything people use is either made in china or japan or some other country.because of financial manipulation......finance manipulation and a massive army.one of the four horsemen, thats how romans tried to remain a superpower,by financial manipulation and massive military....of course it was doomed to fail.....

Worry about that for what?

Even if majority of the fleet is lost in a war it is OK and have to be proud to face. Important thing is to turn enemy into mushroom clouds, up the air and settle down as dust.
