There is a video of a teenager (or pre-teen) circulating in social media, which allegedly shows him self-stimulating himself for sexual pleasure in the MRT.
I would like to request my friends and others to stop circulating this video.
The fact is, young people being young, do stupid things all the time. I am sure many of us will be ashamed of a few things we did when we were that age.
I would hate to see the young man harming himself in shame because of the video that's in circulation.
We must all, as a nation, be concerned about #voyeurism, which seem to be more pervasive these days. Almost everyone has a smartphone with which they can access social media, and the immense power which comes with that. We must exercise this power with great care.
Earlier today I watched a video of an older woman beating a little boy with an umbrella, and everyone was just watching. Someone took a video of that and made it public; but he or she too was probably just watching.
Then now, I see this video of a boy masturbating himself and again someone just captures it on video and makes it public.

What if it was our own brother? Son? Grandmother? Would we still act that way? What happened to intervening? So what if they are strangers?
There is such a thing as socially acceptable behaviour in public space. And no matter how old or young, or big or weak we are, we should not be afraid or shy away from intervening in an appropriate manner when the situation calls for it.
