DPM Teo said that Singapore and China are looking at new ways to collaborate.

He was speaking to reporters from Xinhuanet as he said that Singapore and China are planning to start another government-to-government project in the West of China similar to the industrial parks already at Suzhou and Tianjin.

DPM Teo said that, currently they are planning to either collaborate on a modern connectivity or modern services project but talks are still only in early stages.

Already, Singapore is China’s biggest foreign investor and China is Singapore’s biggest trade partner. With these further government to government collaborations, it is hoped that both countries can benefit even further from good relations.

Mr Teo also spoke about the future plans for both the Suzhou and Tianjin joint projects suggesting that Singapore and China could work together in more advanced manufacturing, innovation, R&D and also major transport links.

Next year also marks the 25[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary for the China-Singapore relations and DPM Teo said that the two countries enjoy broad and substantive ties which benefit both nations.

He hoped that Singapore and China would continue to find new ways to collaborate and grow closer including learning from each other in areas such as social governance.

It is interesting that despite Singapore’s history of despising communists and the recent ban on a film sharing the views of the “communist terrorists”, Singapore is jumping forward to cooperate more with the Communist China government.

Is the government only taking a stance against communism when it is convenient for them to do so in order to hold onto power?

I don't see there is anything that SG can value add to China now given the pace of progressed it has achieved. In terms of hardware, it is ahead. See the buildings, MRT tunneling and highways ~ and yes, the super multi levels highway it has in Shanghai for example. Here, our LTA is so pathetic that the only solution it can think of to solve congestion is to keep widening the roar, be it PIE or CTE.
In terms of technology, china is far ahead. SG only knows how to spend money to import technology but china develop. They have their home grown ID security systems such as finger print scanner, facial recognition and video facial recognition systems. On BIG data, many of their companies have used and developed their own such as Alibaba, Baidu, Huawei etc. Here our Gov likes to talk big and spend big but produces nothing.
On management, china was able to host the Olympic, World Expo and many other mega events some so large that not even SG could handle.
So what and where is the value add ?

Decades ago, if you were labelled a commie sympathizer, LKY would come after you with his hatchet.

Today, if you are a commie sympathiser, no one takes a second look. After all, there are already hundreds of thousands of commies living and working in sinkie land and the main supporter for allowing these commies in the country is the papee Govt.

So, it is like the teochew people like to say "tee kor liang, tee kor chor" and this holds true in the relationship between SG and PRC.

If PRC is still a backward country like N Korea, being friendly with the Chinese commie will become a PRC sympathiser and it will be an offence. Since PRC is a successful country with both military and economic power, being a PRC sympathiser is nothing, no offence, no national security risk.

To sum it all, bending with the wind is the foreign policy of the papees.

Totally agree. It's in the DNA. In fact it's hereditary.

Don't forget that LKY was a traitor who worked for and collaborated with the Japs during the Second World War to harm people living here. Hai-desu, the Imperial Japs were the most powerful race in East and Southeast Asia then.

LKY probably didn't care whether a person is a commie or not, but being suspected of being a commie back then was the perfect convenient excuse to get rid of his political opponents. Very Machiavellian, the old scum.

Too bad the 60% of daft, undiscerning Sinkies still worship the ground he walks on, and cling onto the pearls of wisdom he dispenses.

He and his butch wife went to China to make deals with the Chinese commie officials, so as to carve up Sinkieland finer among themselves. It's definitely not just a holiday.

.....Too bad the 60% of daft, undiscerning Sinkies still worship the ground he walks on, and cling onto the pearls of wisdom he dispenses...

LKY might have the political experience to deal with his opponents but as for "pearls of wisdom", this tag is extremely doubtful. He made mistakes like every mortal on earth. One fine example is the stop at two policy and he wanted to reverse his mistake by importing foreigners.

Wisdom or pure stupidity?
