Guess the nationality : Two-week detention for youth who punched cabby

Two-week detention for youth who punched cabby

Ian Poh The Straits Times Thursday, Oct 23, 2014

yorEP2j.jpg

A drunk university student punched a taxi driver in the head several times over a $16.97 fare last year. Zeng Zhuangyong, who has since graduated, was yesterday sentenced to a two-week short detention order.

The short detention order is a community sentencing option that is intended to be less disruptive and stigmatising than jail.

On April 28 last year, Zeng, now 25, alighted from Mr Poon Cher Ming's vehicle after vomiting in it and tried to leave without paying. The cabby grabbed hold of Zeng twice to stop him from leaving. Zeng responded with a punch both times.

Mr Poon then grabbed Zeng a third time and both men fell to the ground after a short struggle.

Zeng then straddled the 54-year-old, who was lying on the ground, and punched him repeatedly while swearing at him. The cabby was left bloodied from a deep cut on his forehead.

Zeng, who was then a student at Singapore Management University, pleaded guilty to hurting Mr Poon in Lorong 4 Toa Payoh around 3am.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Puvaneswari Sandirasekaran said Zeng had been intoxicated at the time, and had assaulted a public transport worker in the wee hours of the morning.

Zeng's lawyer, Mr Sunil Sudheesan, said his client was 23 at the time and comes from a good family.

Pointing out that Zeng had paid $5,000 in compensation to Mr Poon to show his remorse, Mr Sudheesan said that what had happened was a one-off incident that represented a "total departure" from Zeng's character.

Mr Sudheesan added that Zeng had graduated recently from SMU and wants to pursue a career in the finance sector.

Zeng could have been jailed for up to two years and fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily hurting the cabby.

Why no caning for this kind of road rage? Ex-CJ Yong Pung How said that all road rage offenders should be caned. Why this foreign trash was given only a rap on his knuckle? It is like telling him it is alright to go around and whack sinkies, taxi drivers, etc, you will not be punished harshly, the laws are lenient to foreigners.

After having drinks together, a jobless man invited the woman he had just met to a hotel nearby. When she said no and pushed him away, he beat her up and left her lying injured on the ground. Yesterday, Zulkifly Pardon was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to hurting Murni Wati Azni, 27, outside Palais Renaissance mall in Orchard Road...

Considering the sentence given to the PRC shit for whacking the taxi driver and the jail term given to the jobless man, the court sent the message to remind sinkies to behave and the foreigners to run wild in the country.

What kind of Govt that allows foreigners to escape jail term for assault but send locals to jail for the same kind of offence.

http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/man-jailed-punching-cab-driver

A Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) student has been handed a three-week jail term for punching a taxi driver in his drunken stupor.

Tan Jian Liang, 24, had boarded the taxi at Boat Quay in mid-January this year, at about 1.40am. He instructed 65-year-old Seah Teck Kim to drop him off at Choa Chu Kang Crescent and fell asleep.

When Mr Seah got to Choa Chu Kang Crescent, he parked his taxi by the road and tried to wake Tan up to find out which block to drop him off.

But the taxi driver ended up getting chased by Tan around the taxi, pushed to the ground and punched repeatedly.

Another charge of damaging the NETS device in the cab was taken into consideration.

The court heard that Tan compensated the victim S$515 and also paid about S$335 for damaging the NETS device.

In mitigation, Tan, who was unrepresented, told the district judge he truly regretted his actions and pleaded for leniency.

But District Judge Lim Keng Yeow noted the offences were “very serious” although Tan is a first-time offender. CHANNEL NEWSASIA

Scholarship as free gift from PAP using Sinkies tax monies. The end result - the receiver whacked the giver out of this country resources. This scenario has happened many times and won't be the last as long as PAP continue to preach pro-ft gospel.

Foreigners student on scholarship take our taxpayers money to take taxi.

Yes, the name is very unusual for a sinkie born name, most likely from China. Seems like he has been here for a while, Might have gotten a scholarship to enter secondary school here and than got shitizenship. He keeps referring to singapore as our country, and to the fact that singapore was a "sleepy fishing village". Only indoctrinated FT assholes believe that. real singaporeans would have been told by their elders the fishing village story is bullshit.

the other case with 3 week jail look exactly the same offence and that Singaporean student was a first time offender but given 3 week jail. So what is the difference for this student to be given detention order. The judge ought to explain.

One is SIM grad and one is SMU grad mah. The judge will tell you SIM is shit school and grads from there might as well go to jail. Whereas SMU grads must be given light sentence and second chances. hahahaha

Thousands of taxi uncles get beaten up every year, nobody would notice one or two miscarriage of justice. Public prosecutors sleep easy knowing their mercy will secure the Chinese scion's future. Such a great favour would surely pay dividends in time.

how to complain about judges not carrying out justice in court? So unfair to discriminate one student over the other. Now the injustice affect the students and protestor, we must complain and shame the PAP for such injustice, who knows one day will be you or I affected.
