The pornography industry in China has been using Sina Weibo for publicity, WeChat for filing and internet cloud for storage, all of which are connected by hidden links, creating a new more effective business model, Xinhua Net reports.

Searching Weibo, one can find many nude photos with pixilated faces and ambiguously worded advertising. Then via a Weibo private message, internet users interested in seeing more can gain access to a private WeChat account via applying for a membership using Alipay or some other form of financing, paying three to five hundred yuan (US$49-$82) per month. The charges vary depending on the degree of sexiness. Others businesses will be even more direct, putting prices on their Weibo accounts, then providing users a downloadable password after payment.

As the new pornography business model spreads using peer to peer, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to monitor and ban pornography effectively, experts said.

As the WeChat model is based on "acquaintance" social networks, unlike public media such as large websites and microblogging platforms, the content issued is more difficult to keep track of, said Ren Jianming, professor of the School of Public Administration at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Using normal search engines to find pornographic content on a smartphone's social software is hard to track, and even once known, related agencies can only report them to the corresponding operators, making punishment to violators difficult to dole out.

A loophole also remains in that on social platforms such as Weibo and WeChat, nude photos with blurred out sections, mosaic blocking are still very difficult to be define as porn sometimes.

Such a new type of dissemination will have a big impact on young people, as the newest generation also happens to be the most active users on Weibo and WeChat, said Tian Yipeng, vice president of Philosophy and Social Sciences Institute at Jilin University.

Experts say the government can try to provide financial incentives to encourage internet users to report instances of pornography. Right now it is one of their only means to try and penetrate these newer operations.
