A woman who was brutally hacked to death by her husband in a tragic murder-suicide in Brisbane has been identified as Indonesian transsexual Mayang Prasetyo.
Parts of the 27-year-old's body were found strewn across a Teneriffe apartment - in the Queensland capital's inner-city - and some had been cooked up by her chef husband, Marcus Peter Volke, on a stove.
Volke, 28, slit his own throat soon after fleeing police when they knocked on the door of the couple's home after receiving complaints of a bad smell on Saturday night.

In an ironic twist Volke, who maintained two Facebook profiles under his name, was an outspoken opponent of violence against women in various social media posts.
Less than a month before the killing, the 28-year-old posted a link to a news story about a man who was bashed by a gang for standing up for a group of women, saying 'champion mate' as he applauded the victim.
He also expressed anger over two Indian girls who were hanged after being gang-raped as the ruling government called it a 'social crime' back in June.
Ms Prasetyo's mother, Nining Sukarni, told the Courier Mail from Indonesia she was shocked by her eldest child's death, who she referred to as her son Febri.
Ms Sukarni said Ms Prasetyo was 'fine' when they spoke last week and described Volke as 'quiet' and 'submissive' when the couple visited her in Indonesia last year.
She said Ms Prasetyo moved to Brisbane to be with her husband but wanted to return to Bali after complaining of being 'bored'.
'Febri did not feel at home in Brisbane, however, he started to breed dogs about a month ago and hoped that would keep him occupied,' she said.
'I told him to be good with one another and not to fight.'
Ms Prasetyo's mother said her eldest child would send back money to Indonesia, which paid for her two younger sisters, 18 and 15, to attend school.

According to Volke's Facebook page, the pair have been engaged since August last year but a friend of Ms Prasetyo's said they were married around late November or early December.
The man - who did not wish to be named - told Daily Mail Australia Ms Prasetyo and Volke came to visit him in Germany for their honeymoon.
He said the couple seemed 'very happy' when he saw them together in December.
'Volke was a bit of a shy guy. He didn't talk too much,' the friend - who met Ms Prasetyo in 2009 when they studied German together at the Goethe institute in Indonesian city Surabaya - told Daily Mail Australia.
'Mayang is nice and kind girl too. She liked travelling.'

The couple, who had only recently moved in to the Brisbane apartment complex, met while both working for an international cruise chip company.
A former school friend of Volke's from Ballarat in regional Victoria said the chef had a dark side and an 'intense' gaze.
'He was a good guy, he was a bit up and down, he could lose his temper like anyone can but for the most part he was just like anyone else. He was just one of the boys,' the friend, who didn't want to be named told the local newspaper, The Courier.
'He was always a little different. He wasn't a happy-go-lucky guy like the rest of us – he was a bit dark.'

Ms Prasetyo had listed cabaret drag show Le Femme Garcon as her previous employer.
Daily Mail Australia can also reveal Ms Prasetyo had previously advertised herself as a high-class, transsexual escort on a British online classifieds website.
In an advertisement on the UK version of Backpage - a site similar to Gumtree - posted back in March 2013, the transsexual wrote she was a first-timer in London who was 'busty' and 'extra hot in bed' with a 'big banana'.
More recently, Ms Prasetyo advertised on the same website for the Teneriffe area, charging $200 for half an hour to $500 an hour for her 'top high class international' services as a 'shemale' escort.
'Anyone need some hot pleasure, I am here ready to bring you to high level,' the ad said.

Police discovered body parts belonging to Ms Prasetyo boiling in chemicals and in plastic bags strewn across the apartment on Saturday.
The grisly death is being treated as a murder-suicide after police found Volke's body in a wheelie bin in a street next to the complex shortly after the dismembered body was found.
Volke reportedly fled the scene by jumping over a balcony after police knocked on the door of the Commercial Road apartment complex on Saturday night.
He had tried to dispose of his wife's remains by using an oven but called an electrician to the apartment after his oven failed, according to 9News.
When the tradesman showed up he noted that the carpet made a squelching noise as he walked across it.
Managers of the recently-constructed complex raised the alarm on Saturday after reporting the couple who lived at the apartment had not been seen for several days.
Authorities could not say how long the woman had been dead, but neighbours say a 'rotting meat' smell had surfaced in the days before the grisly discovery.

The man's family have been left shocked by the incident, saying the couple had a loving relationship.
'They were happy. They were always together,' cousin Troy Volke told 9News.
Volke grew up in Ballarat with three other siblings and trained in martial arts at his parents' business, Kyokushin Karate.
The man's mother, Dorothy Volke, told The Courier Mail on Sunday she had spoken with her son just a week before and he seemed normal.
'He was happy and he was coming home for Christmas, everything was normal,' she told the newspaper.
Mrs Volke said her 28-year-old son had only recently settled in Brisbane with his wife after both working on international cruise ships as chefs.
'He'd been on a ship, going from one country to another. They hadn't been in Brisbane for very long, only a few months. They were starting to get settled. I don't know what was going on... we hadn't seen him for a year-and-a-half,' she said.
Police reportedly told Mrs Volke they still had to identify his body with dental records and an autopsy.

Alex Reichart and Courtney Thoresen-Reichart, who moved into the complex just six weeks ago, told Fairfax Media on Sunday there had been a 'rotting meat' smell in the building in recent days.
'I smelled something a few days ago, but we've had sewerage problems through the building over the past few weeks, which building managers have been trying to solve,' she said.
'It smelled like off dog food, so I just thought someone had either been feeding their animal, or the dog had made a mess.'
On Sunday, Dath St resident Ryan Lane told The Courier Mail: 'I came outside and there were probably about 10 or so cop cars out here, and they wheeled one of our wheelie bins outside.'
'I saw them, there were about 15 cops with their guns drawn and then they tipped the bin over and the guy came rolling out covered in blood.
'The guys who live upstairs from us said the police were giving CPR to him.'
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human remains inside the unit remain ongoing.

When they tolerated an eye-watering, near vomit-inducing stench, the residents of an upmarket Brisbane apartment complex were oblivious to the horrors of a gruesome murder-suicide unfolding behind closed doors.

Human remains were found in one of the flats, some reportedly boiling in a pot on the stove.

Marcus Volke is believed to have fled when police arrived at the apartment, but his body was found soon after in a nearby industrial bin after apparently taking his own life.

Volke, 28, is believed to have met the victim, his Indonesian girlfriend Mayang Prasetyo, while they worked as chefs on international cruise ships.

The couple were engaged in August 2013, he posted on his Facebook account.
According to Ms Mayang's Facebook page, she had previously worked for a Melbourne entertainment company called Le Femme Garcon that performed a "Gender Illusion Cabaret Show".

Ms Mayang's death has shocked Bali's gay community, where she was well known.

Mia, an employee at Bali Joe Bar, says Ms Mayang treated him to a meal at a nearby food stall when he last saw her, last month.

"She's a prostitute. She came here only for drinks and looking for customers," he said.

She had also advertised her services as an escort in Brisbane.

Her friends expressed their grief on her Facebook page.

"You were always such a happy, cheerful person, I will miss you so much I couldn't possibly express it in words," one wrote.

Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of reports the victim was Ms Mayang, who it said moved from Melbourne to Brisbane six months ago.

Indonesian authorities are working with Queensland police.

"The Indonesian consulate in Sydney is also coordinating with the Melbourne consulate for details on Mayang Prasetyo," the ministry said in a statement.

Residents of the apartment block in Teneriffe noticed the foul smell had grown more pungent since Wednesday, but on Saturday, were convinced something was not right.

"It was like as if somebody had put out some dog food or some red meat out in the sun and left it for a few days," resident Courtney Reichart recalled.

Over a dozen police officers swarmed the Commercial Road building after a welfare check uncovered the human remains.

However, detectives will not confirm reports that a woman's dismembered body parts were found boiling on a stove.

As forensic officers gathered evidence from the building on Monday, family and neighbours spoke of a "friendly, normal couple".

Volke's mother, Dorothy, confirmed her son was involved.

"Everything was normal," Ms Volke, who lives in Victoria, told the Courier-Mail.

She had spoken to her son a week ago and he seemed happy, although she hadn't seen him for a year and a half.

A contractor removed material from the apartment building on Monday, using large plastic drums, typically used for medical waste.

The complex had only been open for eight weeks and residents were still getting to know one another, Ms Reichart said.

"I only met her a couple of times, and that was only a quick hello and to pat the dog," she told reporters.

"They seemed quite friendly, they didn't seem like they had any issues, but it was a quick meet and greet."

Ms Reichart said she felt sick thinking about what had happened inside.

"That poor girl has sat there for however many days and we've just been walking past, living our lives, and thinking `what's that smell?'"

A WOMAN brutally murdered and cooked by her husband in their Brisbane apartment has been identified as a transsexual “high-class” prostitute whose sex work paid for her family’s education in Indonesia.

Parts of Mayang Prasetyo’s body were found strewn around the inner-city apartment she shared with husband Marcus Peter Volke, 28, who was found boiling her body parts in chemicals on a stove and slit his own throat after fleeing from police on Sunday.

Ms Prasetyo, a 27-year-old sex worker, was charging up to $500 an hour for her services as a “top high-class Asian shemale” the Courier-Mail reported, but dreamt of one day transitioning to “complete womanhood” and becoming a mother.
She had married chef Peter Volke in 2013 after the pair met on a cruise ship, according to friends, and had moved with her husband to Brisbane.
The pair appeared to live comfortably in the modern Teneriffe apartment they had shared for three months.
Friends and family back in Indonesia are mourning the loss of “Febri”, as Ms Prasetyo is also known.

Her mother, Nining Sukarni, told the Courier-Mail her eldest child paid to “put the sisters through school”.
Ads reveal Ms Prasetyo charged from $200 to $500 for her services as an “international escort”.
“Better in real life. Pictures are always real. Real deal pre-op functional hot TS. With a great fit and hot body to enjoy,” one advertisement read.
Another advertisement posted by the transsexual while she was in London last year described her as ‘busty’ and ‘extra hot in bed’ with a ‘big banana’, the Daily Mailreports.
Friends of Ms Prasetyo have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to the “larger than life” woman, and have remembered her as a “beautiful angel”.

A former lover of Ms Prasetyo said she was “a true leader and a brave and courageous being”.
“I knew I had met an awesome person and made a new friend that I would never wish to lose ...,” Brad Whitehouse wrote.
“It breaks my heart that so many of her friends, particularly in Indonesia will be devastated, and of course her family whom she had the spirit of utmost protection and betterment for.”
In the same post, Whitehouse wrote of his friend’s dream of one day becoming a mum.
“Mayang lived as a female and wished to make that big step one day and establish into complete womanhood, adopt, be a mother and a successful businesswoman,” he said.
Tributes have also been paid online to the pair by friends who remember them as a “happy married couple”, and family of the pair have said they showed no signs of problems in their relationship in the weeks that led to both their deaths.

Mr Volke was originally from Ballarat, and had met his wife while working on a cruise ship.
A school friend told his home town paper, the Courier, he was “a little different”.
“He was a good guy, he was a bit up and down, he could lose his temper like anyone can but for the most part he was just like anyone else. He was just one of the boys,” he said.
“He was always a little different. He wasn’t a happy-go-lucky guy like the rest of us — he was a bit dark.”

“He’d been on a ship, going from one country to another. They hadn’t been in Brisbane for very long, only a few months. They were starting to get settled.”
Mrs Volke said that although her son seemed normal, she hadn’t seen him in around 18 months.
“We didn’t know what was going on,” she said.

Friends of Ms Prasetyo have since revealed they had concerns about her husband saying he came across “extremely cold”.
Neighbours have also reported fighting coming from the apartment and it has emerged Mr Volke attended a hospital late last week and told staff his partner cut him in a domestic incident, according to the Courier Mail.
It was reports of a sickening stench, which one neighbour likened to dog food, that led police to knock on the door of the pair’s apartment to find the grisly scene.

Police discovered Mr Volke in the filthy apartment, cooking body parts over the stove. When the man fled he inflicted a fatal knife wound to his throat, and detectives are treating the incident as a murder suicide.
Investigations are continuing into the horrific ordeal, and delving into the life of the chef who had no criminal history.

Australian Chef 'Kills and Cooks' Transsexual Wife then Commits Suicide as Police Close in

Police in Brisbane, Australia responding to complaints about a rotten meaty smell went to a couple's apartment - and found a scene of utter horror.

Inside the apartment in the affluent suburb of Teneriffe police found body parts of male-to-female transsexual Mayang Prasetyo, 27, boiling in chemicals on the cooker. More body parts were found in garbage bags outside and strewn around the apartment, along with several dead pug dogs owned by the couple.

Prasetyo's husband, 28-year-old chef Marcus Volke, escaped via a glass door, jumped off the ground-floor balcony and ran to a nearby wheelie bin where he slashed his own throat and died.

Originally from Denpasar in Bali, Ms Prasetyo was a former transsexual escort whose most recent employer was drag show Le Femme Garcon according to her Facebook page. In one advert Ms Prasetyo said she was 'extra hot in bed' with a 'big banana'. It is thought the couple met when working aboard a cruise liner. Although they said they were engaged on Facebook a close friend said they married last November.

Local TV station 9News said Volke, from the Victorian city of Ballarat, first tried to cook his partner in the cooker, but the oven broke and he called a repairman to fix it. When the repairman walked across the carpet, he said it made a "squelching noise."

Other residents in the riverside complex were shocked when they discovered the source of the smell. Local resident Courtney Reichart told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) the smell seemed to get worse every day.

"On Saturday when I came out for a walk, it made your eyes water, it made you want to be sick. The smell it was like as if somebody had put out some dog food or red meat and left it out for a few days.

"It makes you feel sick that that poor girl sat there for however many days and we've been walking past, living our lives and thinking 'hmmm what's that smell', but you don't put two and two together. You don't think that a bad smell equals a murder."

The man who is believed to have killed then dismembered his transgender wife in an horrific murder-suicide in a Brisbane apartment was secretly working as a male prostitute, it has emerged.
Friends revealed the truth about Marcus Volke's double life and also criticised a Brisbane newspaper for its portrayal of victim Mayang Prasetyo.
Interior designer Alex Devantier, who knew the couple well, told Daily Mail Australia Volke had never worked as a chef but used it as a cover story to avoid telling his family and close friends the truth about his life as Heath the male prostitute.

Ms Prasetyo, 27, was described as 'happy, cheerful person' and an 'angel' by friends.
Mr Devantier said that the front page headline featuring the term 'shemale' was extremely offensive to both her and the transgender community.
He asked The Courier Mail to donate profits from Tuesday's edition to the Gender Centre - a not-for-profit which raises awareness of transgender issues - and Ms Prasetyo's family.
It comes as Queensland detectives appealed for friends and associates of the couple to come forward as police continue their investigation into the murder-suicide.
'We would like to make an appeal for anyone who may have known the couple – either individually or together, to contact police,' Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Armitt said.

'As part of our investigation, we would like to speak to either close friends or other associates of the pair – we would like to know the nature of their relationship with the couple, and gather information about how the couple interacted.
'This information is important in order to present a background about the pair's relationship and its dynamic to the Queensland Coroner.'
Three days ago, parts of Ms Prasetyo's body were found strewn across the couple's Teneriffe apartment in Brisbane's inner-city, with some cooking in chemicals on a stove.

Police arrived at the couple's home after receiving reports from neighbours about a bad smell coming from the Commercial Road apartment on Saturday night, just weeks after they had moved to the Queensland capital.
Volke fled the scene and was later found in an industrial bin with his throat cut in nearby Dath Street.
It has also been revealed Ms Prasetyo travelled as a man named Febri Andriansyah on an Indonesian passport.

Media outlets have previously reported Volke was a chef who met Ms Prasetyo on an international cruise ship.
'They were leading double lives because of the lives they were leading,' Mr Devantier said.
'Marcus wouldn't even tell his closest friends of the life he was leading.
'They lied to their families, so their families didn't realise what they were actually doing.'
In an online advertisement under the name Heath XL, Volke describes himself as a 'young sexy Australian boy, very friendly and easy going'.
The ad went onto to say: 'I can be your companion for an hour or as long as u want, for a dinner, a hot session, holidays or more'.

Mr Devantier met Volke and Ms Prasetyo - who were married in Europe in August 2013 - four years ago in Melbourne and introduced them.
He said the pair worked at Melbourne brothel Pleasure Dome in 2009 and were employed there as escorts for about two months.
'Mayang left the agency because she was so popular that all the other transsexuals hated her and that's why she asked me to build her own website to get away from those who were jealous of her achievements,' Mr Devantier said.
'They both went into private escorting. I actually helped Marcus register as a private escort in Melbourne and then with his advertising.'
Mr Devantier, from Townsville, said he was in shock over the tragedy.
'I still don't believe he [Volke] did it. I can't believe he did it. If he did do it, sometimes you can't judge it, you can't pick it,' Mr Devantier said.
'They were a loving and beautiful couple, and never a bad word from either of them about each other.
'I looked after Mayang's escort website and I was in communication with her all the time.
'There was never any hostility towards each other.'

Mr Devantier and Ms Prasetyo's other friends have called on The Courier Mail to donate its profits from Tuesday's edition which labelled the transgender escort as a 'shemale'.
When he saw the front page of the News Corp newspaper, Mr Devantier said he was disgusted.
He has asked for the donation to be made to the Gender Centre, which helps raise awareness of transgender, issues and Ms Prasetyo's family back in Indonesia for her funeral costs.
'We need to make the community aware of the difference between a post-op and pre-op transgender person, a transvestite, a cross dresser, et cetera,' he said.
'[Ms Prasetyo's] family have just lost their sole source of income and money for putting the family's second eldest and third eldest child – both girls - through high school and that was who she was to them, the breadwinner.'
Mr Devantier also urged people to a sign a change.org petition asking for The Courier Mail to 'publicly apologise for articles relating to Mayang Prasetyo'.
At the time of publication, the petition had amassed more than 15,000 signatures.
Mr Devantier said Ms Prasetyo - who was a pre-operation transsexual - was months away from becoming a woman anatomically.
'She said she knew from 10 years old that she believed she was a woman and I believe she was not far from her goal – it would have been months,' he said.
