Re: Haze....

This morning I thought the haze situation had finally turned because the air quality was good. The PSI was less than 50 but tonight it is very BAD with readings up to the 180's:mad:

I am getting out of Spore & will probably go to Malaysia or LOS. I have things to here but what can you do if it is so unhealthy in Spore? Better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Haze....

The wind direction is changing and fluctuating, on Sunday the northern winds have started to blow. It just so happens that the wind direction has changed on Monday to southern winds.

It'll probably take 1-2 weeks more before the northern winds blow strongly and consistently, and thus blow away the haze.

NEA asks Indons to suppress forest fires immediately woh. hahahahha

Like a small child asking for more porridge? Is NEA so naive to think that asking the Indons to stop it will be a successful method to stem the haze? hahahaha No wonder the PAP is getting raped on the international stage. They want the Indons to take "immediate action" woh. Like the Indons willl listen to them. They want immediate action, ask the RSAF to bomb all those fire setting villagers back to the stone age. $12 billion defence budget, and singaporeans are getting killed by the haze with the PAP not doing anything.
Haze set to persist overnight; NEA requests Indonesian authorities to suppress fires

SINGAPORE - The National Environment Agency (NEA) has requested urgent updates from Indonesian authorities after Singapore was enveloped with unhealthy levels of haze on Monday.

Air quality on the 3hr-PSI scale peaked at 153 at 7pm, not before abating slightly for three consecutive hours, registering 131 at 10pm.

A statement issued by NEA on Monday night said that PM2.5 (small, toxic particles) levels are elevated in all regions of Singapore, notably in the southern parts of the island, bearing the brunt of the haze from the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

The hazy conditions are expected to persist overnight to tomorrow, NEA added, due to the southwesterly winds blowing smoke from central Sumatra, across the Straits of Malacca and towards Singapore.

Some parts of peninsular Malaysia are also affected. A total number of 97 hotspots have been detected in Sumatra, and 74 in Kalimantan. NEA has requested Indonesian authorities to take immediate action to suppress the fire. - See more at: http://news.asiaone.com/news/singap...levels-set-stay-tomorrow#sthash.abQ2dqB6.dpuf

Re: NEA asks Indons to suppress forest fires immediately woh. hahahahha

Than we got this idiot fucktard PM saying that sinkies are not looking outwards. SUre we are, we have to breath the haze coming from outside singapore. Look outwards for fuck when his govt has not proven capable of doing anything about it.

'Navel-gazing' poses risks for Singapore, says PM Lee

Thailand has a new prime minister after military chief Prayuth Chan-ocha seized power.

But many Singaporeans would be hard pressed to name him.

Similarly, the extremist group ISIS has been terrorising the world with its beheadings. But how many can say what ISIS stands for? (The abbreviation stands for "Islamic State in Iraq and Syria".)

In noting this, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said it showed people were not reading the news and were too caught up with immediate concerns.

This posed dangers, he added, as we would not know what is happening outside of Singapore and we would not be prepared to respond to the changes taking place.

Mr Lee stressed the importance of looking outwards in his National University of Singapore (NUS) Society lecture last night.

Speaking to an audience made up mainly of NUS graduates, he noted that Singaporeans have been concentrating on what is happening at home, and understandably so, given the urgent issues of housing, public transport and medical care.

The Government, however, is making strategic policy shifts to prepare for longer-term trends, such as changes to the population and the economy, he said.

"But, perhaps, because we are so focused on these issues, I fear Singaporeans are not paying enough attention to what is happening outside of Singapore."

He noted that people have stopped reading newspapers and watching the news on television, and were getting information from their friends and through social media.

Some have also been "absorbed" in daily life, leaving little time and energy to track less immediate concerns, he said.

But paying attention to the world around us is important, he said, for Singaporeans to gain perspective and realise that many countries were facing the same issues as Singapore.

People, then, can make a judgment on whether they should be alarmed about developments in Singapore, or whether they should "congratulate" themselves. Also, it would allow Singapore to learn from the experiences of others, he said.

With major shifts in the Asian landscape, all of which have a big impact on a small country like Singapore, keeping an eye on the world would help Singapore stay abreast of the changes as well.

He noted that changes were afoot in Indonesia, India and China.

Re: NEA asks Indons to suppress forest fires immediately woh. hahahahha

I was in Batam last week & found out that no one there knew that the haze was at very unhealthy levels because they don't have any monitoring stations to measure the air quality there.

If you go to http://aqicn.org/map/ you will see that there is no air quality data for Indonesia.

Funny thing is that although there is monitoring going on in Spore, the PAP wants to ignore the problem & playing down the seriousness of the problem:(

Let's make this a sensible discussion regarding the issue. What exactly is the PAP supposed to do?

If the Indonesian government can't fix this complex issue, how is a foreign nation supposed to influence the outcome?
