The Hong Kong educational argument is against increase of English language elements and emphasis in the view the England's education is currently shifting towards Chinese language and Confucianism and Oriental Family value.

How can we Asians blindly abandon our own values and turn towards the west as the west are actually dropping their own position to turn towards our ancestors ways?:(:p

當本港學校絞盡腦汁如何增加英語教學課時及提升學生英文水平之際,英國 教育官員,卻打算在當地所有公校引入普通話和儒學課程。


  在英國兒童、學校及家庭部中專責學校和學習事務的部長奈特,結束北京 考察之行回國後,提出這個構思,希望透過儒家尊重知識的傳統文化,提升英國學生的整體成績。
  從政治和經濟層面來看,不待政府推動,西方對普通話和中國文化的興趣,正隨中國壯大而日增,選修普通話作為外語的人愈來愈多。另一方面,中國亦 透過在海外設立孔子學院,希望起到類似英國文化協會的作用,在國際上發揮文化軟實力,並且中和各國對中國執政黨的意識形態戒懼。奈特與北京孔子學院總部討 論在英國公校建立孔子課堂網絡,有助雙方透過文化交流互利互惠。

  重家庭教育 西方漸欣賞


  內地近年多了提倡儒學的聲音,填補意識型態信仰空檔,儒家要求「君君,臣臣,父父,子子」,各安其位,歷史上漢武帝罷黜百家獨尊儒術,藉以鞏固統治基礎和提高社會生產力,但同時成為備受歷史爭議的政策。放諸現代社會,八十年代香港、台灣 、新加坡 和南韓 經濟起飛,成為「亞洲四小龍」,當時已經有人指出四小龍的共通點,是同受到儒家文化傳統影響。


  英國教育部門統計,當地華裔學生無論是十一歲還是中學畢業,平均成績都冠絕所有族裔。奈特相信這是得力於儒家文化對家庭和教育的尊重。


  無論是從穩定社會、發展經濟、提升成績的角度出發,都只是停留在從功能和利益角度去接觸儒學,忽略了儒家文化的「仁義」精髓。相比之下,本港傳統基礎教育強調儒家對品格修養的重要,更顯可貴。


  近年儒家學說在本港中學課程所佔的比重,愈來愈輕。中國語文科取消範文之後,除非學校有開設中國文化科,否則《論語 》、《孟子》等課文更屬「可有可無」。

  揚文化精髓 要靠雙活化


  外國學生用現代化譯本學四書五經,雖欠原汁原味,至少毋須被文言文嚇怕,感覺上比較容易入手。香港學生要從四書五經得益,要過兩道「活化」關, 其一是教師要把數千年前的文字以現代化的語言準確詮釋,達到類似「母語教學」效果;其二是如何結合今天現實生活,令學生不致覺得這些人生道理是宣揚愚忠愚 孝的迂腐八股。


  例如,在今天追求民主平等的社會,大家會覺得儒家當年提倡的君主和階級制度落伍,但當中的「國以民為本」觀念,到今天仍然能夠與國家主席胡錦濤 的「以人為本」施政理念遙相呼應。


  春秋時代諸子爭鳴,是中國以至世界哲學思想最璀璨的年代,儒家以至諸子學說,都蘊含不少文化精髓。活學當年很多大道理,也適合活用於今天的日常 生活小節。這需要教師協助學生在語文、歷史、通識和德育之間融會貫通,珍惜這份豐厚的文化遺產並代代相傳,不致「禮失而求諸野」。

The family, as the immediate substantiality of mind, is specifically characterised by love, which is mind's feeling of its own unity. Hence in a family, one's frame of mind is to have self-consciousness of one's individuality within this unity as the absolute essence of oneself, with the result that one is in it not as an independent person but as a member.
