Most of us abhor having physical contact with folks that are perceived to be not very clean. It could be due to overly concern for personal hygiene. It is for this reason that I respect volunteers and social workers, who have no fear in subjecting themselves to work in environment that is nowhere near hygienic - just to bring a little comfort to the less fortunate. Cleaning dirt filled rental flats, bed bug infested rooms, massaging the limbs of terminal patients ..... expose these kind souls to risks. However, they have overcome their personal concerns and do it repeatedly. Their selflessness is worth much more than the million dollars that the rich donated.
Any individual without a kind heart will not be able to exhibit the same loving care that Samaritans can. As we age, we understand life better. We see beyond material wealth and comfort. So why is there a need to pretend. Be ourself. If we fear being rejected because of our behavior, then change. If we can't change, then avoid. Don't pretend and put ourself in in the limelight only to be viewed by others as a foolish hypocrite.
