Personal details of more than 317,000 members of Karaoke entertainment operator K Box Singapore appear to have been leaked publicly.

At 4.17am on Tuesday morning (Sep 16), a group calling themselves The Knowns emailed links to the list of members' details to several media outlets, including MediaCorp.

The list includes names of K Box members as well as their contact numbers, email addresses, NRIC numbers, dates of birth and marital status. It also includes K Box-specific data, such as membership numbers and "K Points" earned.

Channel NewsAsia has been able to verify the details of several of the individuals on the list. One member, who confirmed her details in the list were accurate, said that K Box has not yet contacted her about any leak.

"I'm a bit freaked out," said the member, who asked to remain anonymous. "My main concern is that with those details, someone could sign me up for random stuff."

Another member whose name was found on the list said he was "extremely concerned what other personal information got leaked" and that he was also worried if other companies' databases had been hacked. He filed a police report reporting the leak on Tuesday afternoon.

K Box did not respond to phone or email queries from the media. A senior management staff at the company headquarters said the company had "no comment" on the issue.

Channel NewsAsia understands that the relevant government agencies are aware of the incident and are looking into it.

The group claiming responsibility for the leak said that it was in response to "the recent increase in toll at Woodlands", saying that it was "an unnecessary financial burden on working Malaysians".

"To show our displeasure, we are releasing the database of Kbox containing more than 300k personal details of its membership. We had done it before and will do it again."

UPDATE:

The list of customer details which was leaked online at around 4:15am this morning by anonymous hacker group 'The Knowns', contained details such as names, contact numbers, email addresses, NRIC numbers, date of birth and marital status. The database also contained details such as K Box member numbers and number of K Points earned.
The details on the database appear to be accurate with several of the members able to be contacted at the listed numbers and addresses. They confirmed that the details are all correct. A few TRS readers have also notified us that their details are also accurate on the publicly leaked list.

The list also includes the data of local actors and actressses who have patronised K Box before.

Customers contacted from the list expressed that they were concerned about the privacy breach and were worried that the details may be misused by members of the public to sign up for random services. Others had more serious concerns including that they may be listed as guarantors for loan sharks or worse.
K Box said that they have "no comment" on the security breach and it is understood that they are yet to contact the affected customers to notify them of the breach.
Members of the public have already filed police reports over their leaked data. It is expected that K Box could be in trouble for failing to adequately protect their customers' details.

------
The Real Singapore received a tip-off from anonymous hacker group 'The Knowns' that they have released the personal data of over 300k customer of Kbox Singapore in protest of the recent Toll Hikes at the causeway.

This is the email that they sent in to TRS:
For a government who cares for nothing but profit and disregards the plight of others, we will attack and expose.
The recent increase in toll at Woodlands is an unnecessary financial burden on working Malaysians. The selfish act increases the revenue of the Singapore government at the expense of the common people.
It is unacceptable. To show our displeasure, we are releasing the database of Kbox containing more than 300k personal details of its membership. If nothing is done to ease the burden then no Singaporean will be safe, we
will continue to release more databases of Singapore companies.

We had done it before and will do it again.
The Knowns
We have done a check on the data released and do confirm that these are real database and personal details of Kbox customers in Singapore.

We have also forwarded our queries to Kbox for clarifications.

Some have speculated that the group of hackers are most likely Malaysians located in Malaysia that are affected by the recent toll hike by the Singapore government.

Do you think the government will listen?

Well done to that person.

A little advice to that person: next time don't put the leaked information on Pastebin or Mega.nz or even inform any of the usual local-centric blogs/sites... it'll only be a matter of time before some goody-two-shoes law abiding shittyzens flag and report your content, causing it to be removed.

Direct your content to the more 'underground' sites. Good luck.

Why complain when the exchange rate favours the other side? Toll rates should be raised even higher.<style>.node-article .field-name-link-line-above-tags{float: right;}.node-article .field-name-ad-box-in-article {float: left;margin: 15px 15px 10px 0;}.node-article .field-tags{clear: both;}</style>

Malaysians working in Spore mean either msian chinese or Indian. They only know how to take but don't know how to give. When they take from Spore they take it for granted but don't expect they will let you do the same to take from them in JB.

Look at their arrogance. Got guts go and hack Malaysia government websites lah for the toll hikes. All coward bullies preying on easy target. They know that Spore govt is useless when come to foreigners misbehaving.

Want to drive cheap msia cars to Spore to work in comfort then pay for it. If not take bus! I support PAP to increase the VEP to $100 and tolls to match whatever rates msia charging! Hate to see these jiu hu kia taking advantage to drive cheap car to work in Spore while Sporeans pay expensive COE. Take advantage until so yaya as if it is their right to drive cheap car to work in Spore. Er ren xian gao Zhuang. No diff from PRC!

Lousy hackers. If they are really good they should be releasing data such as pap minister ic and addresses. Not some kbox membership details.

It would be great if they release our minister's assets and bank balance, or temasek and GIC's balance sheet. In no time, the toll will be free.
