Microsoft is preparing to shelve Nokia for good, along with any sweet memories of what could have been the first mobile phone we’ve ever touched. Geekongadegets got hold of a PowerPoint presentation that was meant for internal use in Microsoft, which shows that the company is planning to get rid off the Nokia brand name for good. The slide reads, “as a part of our phased transition, we will drop the manufacturer name [Nokia] from product references during the Holiday campaign”

Hardly surprising...all of Microsoft's 'business partners' in the past have been screwed over.

However, in this case Microsoft is committing suicide. It sincerely thinks its brand is as appealing as Apple's, and is enough to attract customers.

The truth is that Nokia itself carried Windows phones to a 3% global market share. Without Nokia, Blackberry will steal all of Windows phones' customers.

Another piece of recent news which suggests that Microsoft is desperate.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/13/6144463/report-microsoft-minecraft-deal-could-be-announced-monday

Though the game is very popular on Android and iOS devices, Minecraft is not available on Windows Phone. Analysts view Microsoft's acquisition not as consolidating its position on its Xbox consoles, but giving it a strong user base with which to grow its mobile business. Person, two years ago, was sharply critical of Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/12/us-mojang-microsoft-idUSKBN0H72EV20140912

Microsoft does not disclose numbers of users of Windows Phones, and declined comment on the deal.

Minecraft was launched five years ago as a PC game, but 54 million sales later, about 40 percent of copies are downloaded onto phones and tablets. Left to their own devices, it does not seem likely that Mojang's 40-strong team would ever get round to designing a Windows Phone version of Minecraft.

its alright.....90% of the pc and laptop market is dominated by microsoft.....the world is run on windows......apple is just a fad and gimmick and will die out as soon as the iphone fad dies out.....before ipod and iphone came out nobody even gives a damn about imac or macbook 10,15 years ago......now apple is losing their touch so they are slashing prices on all their computer peripherals because they know nobody is buying the apple gimmick anymore....now they can only compete on the cheaper better faster basis.

Is there a problem? I am still using this and it works fine.

limited to gsm (2g) and gprs/edge (2.5g) while networks have been upgraded to 3g and 4g. it's a matter of years before gsm and gprs/edge are retired and fully replaced with hspa and lte due to end of life and end of support issues for legacy technologies. parts and components to maintain 2g and 2.5g are no longer in production. it's in the stage of cannibalization, where old parts are being salvaged, repaired and refurbished just to keep the network going.

They are going to discontinue the Nokia X Android phones. Why? Because the new Ah Neh CEO not happy... prefers to produce cheap Windows phones to compete with the cheap Android phones.

Also, the Nokia X phones are ugly and they don't have Google services and app store in them. You have to sideload apps. Microsoft is also using them to push Bing onto you.
