Former NMP & ex-YPAP Calvin Cheng insults S’poreans
September 9th, 2014 | Author: Contributions

Would like to bring this to the attention of all. Former NMP and ex-YPAP member Calvin Cheng posted the following comments on CNA’s Facebook page (he has since deleted his postings):

Insulting comment by ex-NMP Calvin Cheng against Singaporeans

This guy is pro-PAP FT policy. Online, he has been touting PAP’s pro-FT policy.

In the recent CNA news report [Link] about the woman who defecated outside Holland Village MRT station, Calvin Cheng got into arguments with netizens on the Facebook page.

In his quest touting the virtues of having more immigrants coming to Singapore, he insulted Singaporeans. He posted”

“When Singapore had nothing it was even harder for the immigrants. There was nothing to take. Now if immigrants come and they don’t speak English well, come from a developing country, did not have the comfort that a Singaporean has growing up and STILL you lose your job to them, then frankly you are a bit sh*t aren’t you? At the end of the day as long as your forefather is an immigrant don’t complain”.

It never crosses his mind that it is because the foreign workers are cheap, working 14 hours a day, 6 days a week and dare not complain, is making them more attractive than Singaporeans for employers to employ!

If PAP allows slavery in Singapore like in the olden times, I’m sure employers will all be ecstatic! How can such a calibre like Calvin Cheng became an NMP in the first place? How does the Govt select our NMPs?

He also said that “the concept of a true-blue Singaporean is nonsensical”. He clearly thinks that native-born Singaporeans do not deserve any benefits of being citizens, never mind the fact that native-born Singaporean males serve the burden of defending the country with their lives, and some have indeed died in training accidents during their National Service.

Incidentally, Calvin Cheng runs a modeling agency. He clearly either doesn’t understand or simply doesn’t care that Singaporeans face several disadvantages compared to foreigners. For one thing, the take home pay of a foreigner is a significant 20% higher than that of a Singaporean because of the employee CPF contribution. Similarly, foreigners are 17% cheaper to an employer because of the employer CPF contribution.

Moreover, most of these foreigners come from Third World nations with a favorable exchange rate, and when they finally return home they can expect to enjoy a better life than most Singaporeans have. In addition, male Singaporeans have an additional burden in their NS reservist liability, something often used as an excuse by many employers to employ foreigners instead. NS also causes these males also lose out 2 years to foreigners in University education and employment opportunities.

Singaporeans already face an unequal playing field competing against the newcomers due to the above reasons. With business owners like Calvin Cheng who openly shows disrespect for his own people and favors foreigners instead, native Singaporeans will face an additional obstacle in employment opportunities.

This is not the first time that a former or current PAP member has openly insulted Singaporeans. Former MM Lee Kuan Yew once labelled Singaporeans as being lazy:

Over time, the MM says, Singaporeans have become “less hard-driving and hard-striving.” This is why it is a good thing, the MM says, that the nation has welcomed so many Chinese immigrants (25 percent of the population is now foreign-born). He is aware that many Singaporeans are unhappy with the influx of immigrants, especially those educated newcomers prepared to fight for higher paying jobs. But taking a typically Darwinian stance, the MM describes the country’s new subjects as “hungry,” with parents who “pushed the children very hard.” If native Singaporeans are falling behind because “the spurs are not stuck into the hide,” that is their problem.

Maybe the PAP itself should get more spurs to stick in their members’ hides so as to teach them humility and to respect the sacrifices of their fellow countrymen and women instead of taking them for granted and badmouthing them openly!

Editor’s note: NEA has identified the woman who defecated outside Holland Village MRT station last month as a 34-year old Singaporean with a long history of schizophrenia and intellectual disability. NEA has issued a stern warning to the woman.

We have a newly nominated NMP, Chia Yong Yong whose close relation with the PAP already cast doubt if she is non-partisan.

Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) has voting rights like elected MPs as can be seen in the voting of the 6.9 million population white paper.

NMPs are selected by PAP and not elected by the electorates to enter parliament.
NMPs represent no one. They do not have any constituencies.

Singapore Idol and Superstar contests have more transparency and democracy compared to this NMP scheme.

Do not deceive ourselves that we have 40% opposition, in reality the opposition representation in parliament is only 11% (excludes NMPs).

Total [MPs + NCMPs]: 90
Opposition [WP (7 + 2 NCMPs) + SPP (1 NCMP)]: 10

The NMP scheme is a Trojan horse and a loaded dice that favours the PAP.

Think carefully and vote wisely come next GE.

Here's an article which debunks the often-used comeback by the PAP that 'our ancestors were also immigrants'.
You'll hear it from the pappies themselves, or from assorted PAP shills and supporters. The actual wording may vary but the underlying message is unchanged.

Time to face the hard truth: Why immigration is no longer possible with the present wave of immigrants
http://temasekpolicyreview.wordpres...possible-with-the-present-wave-of-immigrants/

“I will never argue for zero immigration, but the reality is that when you invite more people than you can handle, you no longer integrate them.”

Integration is a natural process and cannot be fast-tracked by simply throwing money to hold a few carnivals and festivals to promote it and pray that it will happen automatically somehow.

Human beings are not mere economic digits or emotionless robots. There is more to integration than simply reciting the National Pledge and changing the color of one’s identity card.

Before integration is possible, three conditions must exist:

1. The desire of the immigrants to settle in Singapore permanently.

2. The proportion of immigrants in the population.

3. The rate of intake of immigrants.

It is time for both Singaporeans and the government to face the hard truth that integration is no longer possible simply because we have got it all wrong right from the very beginning.

Dogs such as Calvin Cheng and the various PAP astroturfers on this forum should read it and memorize it.

Very easy to tell whether the new comers are seriously interested to integrate to a society:

a) do they show any interest to learn the language to communicate like English?

b) do they try to put up the local accent and try to speak like Singaporeans?

c) do they show a willingness to make friends with the locals and not go everywhere in large group in their own nationality?

d) do they feel happy to be mistaken as the local and won't make such comments like "it irks me to be mistaken as as Sporean"?

So clear to me the newcomers in Spore exhibit ZERO intention to integrate. Instead they behave like they are at home and do as they pleased.

the hard truth is that pap is trying to give out more new singapore citizenships to dilute the local opposition votes.

Calvin Cheng and those who says that we need to embrace foreigners because our forefather is also an immigrant are indeed ingrates and a disgrace to our countrymen.

By not allowing you to withdraw ALL your CPF at 55, the PAP is insulting sillporeans by saying they cannot be trusted to manage their own money-even at an age when most have successfully raised children to adulthood.

Calvin is merely toeing the line.

Many of the policies insult locals - but looking at the 60% its not surprising.
