A little too late but still focusing wrongly. We have attracted so many mnc but we have not produced a single mnc. We dug so many tunnels but there is not a single local company venturing overseas to dig tunnels for others. We build so many complex infrastructure and malls but the main contractor is always a foreign company.
Technology transfer, a song we have heard for decades. Yet there was no fruit to enjoy or boast of after years of development.
Skill is the result of having the right attitude and passion. With or without paper qualifications, one with the right attitude will excel and develop valuable skill in their respective field. Sadly attitude is moulded by the environment. Looking back, the young have been exposed to society that scoffed at hardwork and embrace quick gains. In the past, paper qualification especially scholarships, was the easiest route to "success". Then come the time where quick bucks were made through speculation in shares, properties and financial instruments. We have produced a nation of speculators. A friend who used to preach to me that it is silly to lock his fund in property because with $1m, he could make 10 business ventures and all he needed was one success and the return will be many folds. At the end, he didn't make his money from business but from property.
Now, knowing that property price has reached its peak and upside is limited and with no new ways to churn out easy money, we are talking about skill. Maybe it is not a little too late but simply too late as people cannot reverse their mindset with the click of a button. It takes generations to change but do we have the time?
