Every school has produced the good, the bad and the ugly.

But it cannot be denied that Raffles has consistently produced the best and brightest, whether in the political sphere or the business sphere. Rafflesians have occupied the highest levels of government and industry. And they have done so in numbers, not matched by any other school.

Whether it is Lim Bo Seng, Benjamin Sheares, Othman Wok, David Marshall, Lim Yew Hock, Yusof Ishak, S Rajaratnam, or even the legendary footballer Quah Kim Song, love them or hate them they made their mark on Singapore. Without their collective effort Singapore would have become a different place.

Every Rafflesian can attest that the history, the culture, the traditions of this institution leaves an indelible mark on them. It is a commitment to excellent in every sphere. To REIGN SUPREME IN EVERY SPHERE, THE SONS OF SINGAPORE.

During BMT, we had a corporal instructor that was an old Rafflesian. He was a short-tempered, sadistic mean bastard with a chip on his shoulder. Later on, we found out he was such a bitter person because he didn't make it to OCS. I wonder if this is a trait with Raffles products? If they are not selected to the top, they become resentful to society.

Have you not considered that it may be a case of cronyism rather than the school producing good students?

Even UK is raising issues about all their key members are from a specific private school

That's not cronyism that's the power of branding and the persuasive influence of reputation.

People buy certain products because of the reputation of the brand behind the product. Likewise when it comes to schools and tertiary institutions.

If you're interviewing to hire an engineer, would you choose one from MIT (MARA Institut Teknologi) or MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

The answer is obvious.

Partly true. It's called the old boys' network. That's why 19 British PMs studied at Eton and the past 9 PMs are Oxford alumni.

As for Rafflesians and the Singapore ruling elite, we all know how long the list is.

My son got good grades for his O-level..

He told me he has to opt for Raffles JC as when the day he gets an interview for s scholarship. THREE out of FOUR on the interview panel are from Raffles...
