SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two men and a woman, aged between 21 and 36, for loanshark harrassment. They were tipped off to the case involving fire at Blk 11 Toa Payoh Lorong 8 a fortnight ago on Aug 13. Channel NewsAsia understands two shoe racks were burnt.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a probe and with the help of leads from CCTV footage, the three suspects were arrested at about 6.15am on Wednesday (Aug 27).

The suspects will be charged in court on Thursday. If found guilty, they face a jail term of up to five years and between three to six strokes of the cane. They could also be fined between S$5,000 and S$50,000.

Superintendent of Police Aileen Yap, head of the Unlicensed Moneylending Strikeforce of CID, said: “Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment. Those who deliberately vandalise properties will be arrested swiftly and dealt with severely, in accordance with the law."
