My guess of this remains as what I've said before:

1. This is simply a vehicle to allow TJS to get into Parliament.
2. But he stands no chance in a GRC.
3. Even in an SMC it will be difficult for him though his chances improve somewhat.
4. The new party will allow it to sit in the pre-election pow-wow with the other parties, particularly WP.
5. But as I've said publicly, WP should not sit in any further pow-wow with the other parties. It should just announce where it will stand once the new EBRC report is released. The other parties can sort out for themselves where each of them will contest.
6. If there are going to be 12 SMCs WP should field candidates in at least 6. It can leave the rest to the others, where they can work it out amongst themselves.

Depends on who you are asking. TJS is primarily interested in getting himself into parliament and getting other colleagues in is secondary.

But most who threw their lot with SFP expects to ride on it into parliament. Fahmi has hopped at least 3 parties, from PAP to NSP to SDP to SFP. Winston from PAP to DPP to SFP. You don't hop parties if you have no ambitions. Ang may be TJS good friend, but will fade out if he doesn't win. Only Loke is a diehard TJS loyalist.

That is why I don't expect SFP to survive past 2016 if they get typical opposition results, ie to win no seats.

Apparently the new party has not created as much excitement as RP in 2008. KJ was a new face and scion of JBJ. Just by that, RP recruited more than 100 members overnight. (We know what has happened since then. RP despite being formed by the majestic JBJ is now rated alongside the pathetic SDA. Opposition supporters think it is a party below even SDP, NSP or SFP.)

TJS on the other hand is not a new face. He has contested under another party and people wonder why chose that party and not return to it. He is also known to have split the presidential votes to allow TT to win.

Since RP was founded, we have seen NSP leave SDA because of SPP then SPP leave SDA because of SJP and PKMS. Then we had a Socialist Front, revival of DPP and WP occupying more space in the opposition camp. Now people think the opposition space is crowding out and do not welcome SFP.

I think we have to credit S'poreans with some measure of intelligence. Many people have been bemused by the way TJS has made many statements, some of which are in direct contradiction to earlier statements he made. Thus, as an SDP candidate in GE2011 he said that he did not join WP because he did not wish to stand against his friends, including George Yeo. After GE2011, he put out another version along the lines that WP does not accept candidates at short notice. The 2 versions are completely at variance with each other.

At the presidential election, TJS said that he would work for $500k a year as president. (It was actually TKL who first floated the idea of taking a much reduced salary.) Then a day before the PE he said he would even work for $1.

These kinds of statements are similar to some of the policy statements the new party has put out. Where are the revenues going to come from to pay for all the enhanced spending and reduced tax collection?

What happened with this Socialist Front? I keep seeing people mention it but I do not see activities or hear any news.

You highlight a particular issue. Some of these small parties are only "political parties" in terms of having met the minimum statutory requirement of registering as such with the ROS. As such I would use the terms "political parties" quite loosely when referring to a few of this very small entities.
