Train services along the North-East line were completely out of operation today for about 9 hours after a power fault caused a disruption from 6am this morning.
SBS released a statement at about 3pm saying that normal service has now been restored.

In their statement, SBS explained that they deployed over 20 engineers to rectify the issues which was caused by the dislocation of a part supporting the power supply line.
Two pairs of steady arms which hold the contract wire of the overhead Catenary System Power supply line had come loose.

The incident itself occurred at the crossover between and North and South tunnels near Punggol and the fault meant that power was completely cut at both Punggol and Sengkang Stations.

SBS deployed 40 shuttle causes to ferry commuters between Punggol and Sengkang and bus services at the affected stations were also made free.
Traffic ambassadors were also sent out to help commuters find the way.

“We deeply apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused. Detailed investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of the fault.” said SBS Transit.

In total over 18,000 commuters were affected by the disruption and during the morning peak, there was long queues seen at the bus stops. Some commuters reported that there was a lot of confusion as the signs were not clear as to what was going on.

<!-- end of header //--> SMRT's president and group CEO Desmond Kuek yesterday said he was encouraged by Indonesian President-elect Joko Widodo's support for the Jakarta Eco Transport Monorail project (JET), for which SMRT is a partner.
Mr Kuek met Mr Joko - also known as Jokowi - at a project progress meeting in Jakarta yesterday, where Mr Joko reiterated his support for the public transport project.
Mr Joko also noted that such a mass transportation system is much needed for Jakarta.
Mr Kuek said: "SMRT is pleased that the project has been given new momentum with the support of Pak Jokowi, and we look forward to working with our consortium partners and local government officials to bring the project to fruition."

the smrt is by far several times far superior to bart.

this is the newest station your bart ride will arrive on. your train will have to wait until late 2018 before the train door can open to let you out on the incomplete platform. a 9-hour delay is nothing compared to a 4-year delay.

You're lucky. You only have to wait another 4 years.

In Auckland, I'll be waiting forever for a station I was looking forward to. NZ does not have an astute money manager like Ho Ching and as a result, there's not enough money to go round. Parts of the plan have therefore been abandoned to stay within budget.

This is what happens without the PAP.

Auckland Council looks to slash services to rein in spending video

An underground rail station has been dropped from plans for Auckland's city rail link.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown says Auckland Transport (AT) has decided to redevelop the existing Mt Eden Station and connect it to the city rail link rather than build a new underground station at Newton.

By abandoning the plan to have a station at Newton the council will save more than $150 million, he says.

Mr Brown claims the move will also improve the reliability and journey time of train services, minimise construction disruption and reduce property purchase requirements.

Smrt ought not to have reopen 'NE line, instead allow entire track closed to facilitate thorough checks and rectification works if necessary.
