He obviously did not visit the other cities. In Guangzhou, you still get Cantonese news on TV. In fact, most people can receive the same channel in other state via satellite as well.

If they were really genuine about it, maybe they should allow Cantonese or hokkien shows on TV.[/QUOT

After oldman visited PRC got brain washed when he returned SG,

straight away change everything over night!!

1. All Chinese name change to HanYiPin Yin remember??

2. Most of the road in Sickapoor change to Mandarin remember??

Kandang Kerbau becomes Chioa Chioa, sound like Lan Chioa!!
Nee Soon become Yi Shun!! Beh Shan Teng become Bi shan!

3. All TV show Hokkien and Cantonese drama from HK and Taiwan changed to
Mandarin!!

4. Make Redifusion Bankrupt closed down that station! Lei Tai Saw die of heart attack!!

5. School name were change and make it sound like in China!!

6. Biggest mistake of PAPAYA is to allow influx of PRC, mostly unwanted trash from China!!
Create more social problem example you can see middle age lady shit in public place she though no

7. Now influx of Pinoy, Vietcong, Myanmar and Ah Neh to take over Voters job!!

It was reported that

"GRASSROOT leaders and volunteers are learning Hokkien in an effort to improve communication with elderly residents. A group of about 30 attended the first of 10 weekly basic conversational classes at Nee Soon South Community Club. MP Lee Bee Wah decided the set up the lessons after noticing how volunteers had difficulties explaining the various govt schemes such as the Pioneer Generation package - to elderly residents who can speak only Hokkien."

You can call them extreme or they know that they know they are in dire Straits for votes. Their foreign pets treating this place like Hotel. Once used up the resources, their sons will scoot back for Good.

Serve them right. Well, for these group of people that have earn enough ( like Chua Tian Poh ) . It time to give back to PAP and their grass roots movement. Pay back time. Government allow access to have multi Million contract using tax payers money.

they have not been reaching out actively to the elderly residents. that's why they find the need to learn the hokkien dialect now.

that will happen if the PAP thinks they might lose the election and to allow dialects on TV might win votes. no problem with reintroducing dialects on TV then. every dialect is ok: Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Zhejiang, etc. go to hell with the Speak Mandarin Campaign. retaining power is the most important value of all.

Maybe because they heard a hokkien pang sing this song.

Training to be soldier
Fight for our land
Once in our life
2 years of our time
Have you ever wondered?
Why must we serve?
Because we love our land
And want it to be free to be free ... yeah

Looking all around us
FT everywhere
They are having fun
While we are holding guns
And I start to wonder
why do we serve
When we've no more land
and no place to call home to call home ... yah!

Screaming 'PIONEER PACKAGE' very loudly now, in order to get votes from the elderly folks.

If your scheme requires so much 'explaining', it means that it is it is too complicated, or you have a hidden agenda for your incessant 'communicating'.

Smells like desperation from the PAP. Which is a good thing.

Hokkien is the most mainstream and the majority. If you're going to grab votes, naturally you would start with the majority. After all, you have limited resources at your disposal (grassroots goons, online IBs, useful idiots etc).
