Mr Lee Hsien Loong became prime minister 10 years ago today. How has his time in office shaped the lives of Singaporeans?

Published on Aug 12, 2014
It has been a roller coaster of a ride for Mr Lee, who became independent Singapore's third prime minister on Aug 12, 2004.

WE ASKED political watchers how they would characterise Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's 10 years at the helm, in a word or a phrase. Here is what they said:

HANDLING NEW SITUATIONS
"Steering the ship of state through uncharted, hazardous waters."
- Sociologist Tan Ern Ser from the National University of Singapore

MANAGING CHANGES
"Challenging. I think the world has possibly changed as much in the last 10 years as it did in the 25 years when Mr Lee Kuan Yew was prime minister of an independent Singapore.
- Corporate counsel and former Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong

INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP
"A deeply challenging decade that's given the occasion for us to see some adaptive, innovative and responsive leadership, although some feel it has not been responsive enough."
- Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Gillian Koh

May he lead Singapore for 10 more years, and another 10 moar and moarrr and moarrrrrr.

During Lee Hsien Loong's reign as PM:

1) Income gap between the rich and the poor skyrocketed, the middle income folks are squeezed.

2) Singapore has been overrun by foreigners, and quite simply, overpopulated.

3) High profile corruption scandals broke out in various public institutions. Even CPIB is corrupt. The irony.

4) Infrastructure is breaking down.

5) The proliferation of illegal moneylending activities and related businesses.

6) Brazen behaviour from foreigners (Little India riot, Pinoy Independence Day celebrations).

7) Medishield/CPF/minimum sum nonsense.

8) Lifting the Fukushima food ban, when radioactive contamination is still a problem.

9) Spearheading and supporting the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) to screw over Singaporeans even more.

10) Miscellaneous frivolous pursuits e.g. NEA rooftop cleaning, NLB book banning, YOG splurging, Project Jewel, Gardens by the Bay etc.

You can call it 'challenging' or 'roller coaster' but they are just polite euphemisms to say that Lee Hsien Loong had fucked it up big time. Worst PM ever.

A load of hogwash, he is the worst PM in the history of Singapore.

A Prime Minister who leads us down the slope and makes our country more divisive.

A National Day celebrations with the least numbers of National flags flown.
Why..???? Because we don't even know if the country belongs to us.

I would classify him as an administrator. He is not a leader unlike his papa.

Goh Chok Tong is a leader.

Chiam See Tong is a leader.

JB jeyaratnam is a leader.

Definitely not Mr. Lee Sian Loong!
