The announcement was made by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, at the launch of the Clean and Green 2013 campaign on 3 November 2014. To make it more convenient for residents, the brooms will be provided and timetables drawn up.

Dr Balakrishnan, however, said what is needed is a mindset change. "It's not just about being clean in a sterile sense of the word, but clean because it reflects us, our values, our consideration for each other, our responsibility and stewardship of the environment, of our homes and the environment outside our homes," he added.

The campaign is expected to roll out to all blocks in Singapore over the next two years.

To make it more convenient for patrons, the food centres will be retrofitted with facilities for customers to deposit their trays.

Dr Balakrishnan, however, said what is needed is a mindset change. "It's not just about being clean in a sterile sense of the word, but clean because it reflects us, our values, our consideration for each other, our responsibility and stewardship of the environment, of our homes and the environment outside our homes," he added.

The tray-return campaign is expected to roll out to all 107 food centres in Singapore over the next two years.

Nearly 40 primary school students paired up with grassroots volunteers to promote a tray return campaign at Ayer Rajah hawker centre on Saturday morning.

Aged eight to 10, the children from Qifa Primary School, gave hawker centre patrons stickers to remind them to return their trays. Those who did were given wet tissues or a plastic card holder as a token.

The campaign was organised by the West Coast Garden Neighbourhood Committee (NC), together with West Coast Heights Residents' Committee, West Coast Youth Executive Committee, National Environment Agency and Qifa Primary School.

West Coast GRC MP and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry S Iswaran also attended the event.

The use of primary school kids to do their bidding is shameful and disgusting. If you are a parent, would you consider this child abuse?

As I posted in another thread, why in the name of my maggot infested rectal cavity and cheese coated beef bayonet should I care to clear my tray and cutlery at a hawker centre, food court, restaurant or MacDonalds?

We all do so in Reservist camp, at school and work cafe because these are patronized by our colleagues -- people who train and work together with us. There is a responsibility to each other. Therein lies the difference.

However, the problem with sinkieland is that the govt like to do it in a way like they demand you to do it or else you will suffer some sort of pre-mediated disaster and guilt-trip you all the way.

You better put back the tray or else.................

With such a sinkie and "ör else" behaviour from the govt like that, how can a human being mature and grow well.
