They seem to lack a leader who has real good vision who can think out of the box, who can successfully shift paradigms.

In those days gone by, there were the capable old guards helping LKY to run the country but after they retired, things started to change. Today, the leadership is a disappointment.

Over the years there have been numerous people, some very high caliber, who left the pap fold because they longer agreed with the direction the party was taking.

My friend was one such person. High profile member in his constituency grassroots. If he had stayed on, might even have made it to the top. But left because of fundamental disagreement.

Those who stay on either belong to the genuinely brainwashed category or only interested in their self interest basically.

My sense is that 2 factors derailed the system. One is depending on the scholar pipeline and ignoring the rest of society and the second is the 2 year posting system and the accelerated program of promotion. It allowed many to game the system and potential leaders are not identified or leave.

GCT batch was quite alright as they had worked for the first generation and they had strong anchors or role models to follow.

I remember the first generation of leaders were the first to identify the problems before the public became aware. Flood relief work, building tourism and manufacturing, the service industry etc.

The biggest disappointment is the Prime Minister and I suspect they take the cue from him. He seemed to say yes to too many people in grassroots and lobby groups. COE was re-done because grassroots complained. Work permits and employment passes were made freely available because of business lobby. There is also no fire to drive success.

I suspect that he wants to be all things to all people. And the fact that his wife and brother were or on the gravy train reflects poorly on him

A large part of the problem that exist today is a legacy of those who decide stoicatisicallee a due process to do things n not to overturn thse past decision.. in the face of changes. This locks down the nation in a state of reservation n subservient attitude. Another disgraceful act is the sacrfice of essential services leaving citizens to fend for themselves. I am aware a young SC finally gave up on them 2 elections ago. Good chance they will target him for AG or HC judge in the near future. Was YPH's JLC.

This trend will get worse. They really need to change the entire process of identifying good leaders. They also have to cut their links to PA and the grassroots organisations who are feeding them what they want to hear.

In first world countries the grassroots and party faithfuls will get them elected but the Government has to listen to the wider society. The press also acts as the 4th estate. Here there are no checks and balances.
