thank god singapore has never gone into war or never will.....i suspect 5% of the armed forces will collapse or die or kill themselves before even sighting the enemy.

I say 50 percent of the officers will be killed by friendly fires ...90 percent of the generals will likewise be killed.

The heli crash in Brunei led to hysteria in Normanton Park as the number of families of the deceased were residing there.

We should honour our NS death by holding annual ceremony at Istana. We should call it the Patrick Tan Memorial Day.

I remember a collision between an RAAF Mirage IIIe and RSAF A-4 Skyhawk over Singapore in 1983.
Both pilots bailed out but it was real scare.

97 also the yr where a cadet at SOA was killed by a 7.62 round after fire firing. Round in chamber, didn't clear the gpmg after fire firing. Heard the gpmg was trigger off by another cadet as he want to clean the gpmg. Happened at night, somebody goof, didn't clear the chamber after firing. All field excerises suspend for 2-3 days while heads were rolled at SOA. That the problem when saf put hentakaki officers at SOA as trainers. No wonder most officers and NCOs rolled out of SOA are not up to scratch.

Amour accidents are dime a dozen 100% injury.....most times fatal ....so many BOIs convened.
M113 sank, M113 overturned until commander dead severed, tank overturned etc etc.

Also lots of deaths in Armour. 1984 – sinking of M113 in Murai Reservoir, one NSF drowned. 1985 – M113 in convoy exploded when M203 round went off, one NSF died. Ex Wallaby '90 – M113 overturned, 2 deaths. Ex Wallaby '99 – freak accident of branch falling on Cpt's head kiling him.

Also lots of incidents of SM1 overturning decapitating and killing tank commanders (usually regualars) during '80s and '90s.

This was a true blue arsehole pilot. Could not dislodge the towing cable after training and instead of landing at Tengah, this prick insisted of heading back to base where he is based. He knew full well there is a major road on the approach to PL runway. The dangling cable severed the guy's head.

SAF tried to cover up by delaying coroner's inquiry for over a year by fusing to cooperate. After all it was an Poor Indian whose family did not know what to do and Ravi was still in school.

Finally coroner got fed up .

In the early days, a whole truckload of Singapore soldiers were killed when a tonner flip over a cliff in Taiwan. The Sg driver could not cope with the rocky narrow terrain while maneuvering the Taiwanese mountains. The soldiers returned home in coffins. :(

Since then, we hired native Taiwanese drivers until the Sg soldiers are familiar with the terrains.

Civilian deaths in underground caverns. Top secret. Work done in sections by foreign labour divided by nationality and done in sections so they have no idea what they are building.

The bad practice of posthumous promotion across the all the dead after the NZ Artillery incident. These are accidents not in the course of a battle or war. What is the logic behind the promotion.

There was one case a SAF Scholar OCT was knocked overboard from a ship due poor steering and navigation. His body was immediately crushed against the side of the ship and pier without anyone noticing.
