State media cover-up of blind-spots(deficiencies) in Tampines bicycle town project.

State media cover-up of blind-spots(deficiencies) in Tampines bicycle town project.

Was cycling along Tampines park connector (under MRT line next to 'Tampines Green') on Saturday afternoon and was puzzled WHY all the pedestrians shun the foot path and prefer to walk on reserved bicycle tracks. (BTW, raised MRT line is in somewhat North-South axis, bicycle track is underneath and to the east of MRT line, pedestrian footpath (wider) is to the west side).

See map displaying bicycle track/footpath (park connector (green line overlaying MRT track (originally in red))) UNDERNEATH MRT line (in red):

(sauce)

So at around 4pm in the afternoon, the bicycle track is shaded by MRT track above, but the pedestrian footpath is completely unshaded: thus the reason WHY all the pedestrians look irritated with me riding on the bicycle track whilst many foreign talent cyclist whizzed by on the footpath to the west (which is incidently actually BETTER for cycling as it is more straight (wider/ less winding) and has LESS BLINDSPOTS: albeit received zero shade by the MRT line above from the afternoon sun (okay, cos cycle faster means less sun-tan).

Silently, I acquiesced since I was travelling faster than pedestrians but more so because I was very UNCOMFORTABLE with the number of BLINDSPOTS along the designated (winding) bicycle track (it wound very close to MRT track pillars meaning that hitting pedestrian straywalkers would be a very high risk). The pedestrian footpath was much better to cycle on bring further from the MRT tracks: thus providing a much clearer view of sight. Perhaps persuaded by the pedestrian's desire for shade, and cyclist need for a clear line of sight, people progressed AGAINST the ironfisted rule of the PAP gahmen.

Point is, when state media publishes its pro-gahmen, reports to glorify PAP further, they always put a positive spin on things: e.g. purposely visiting the beneath MRT cycle path in the late morning (/low traffic period) to take photos showing the scheme to work excellently according to plan: only to have mayhem reign in the afternoon as traffic volume increases/ cyclists are evicted by pedestrians who demand the privilege of shelter from the hot sun.

: state media photo of PAP cronies taken in the morning with shadows timing the sun to be shining from the east, note incidently the huge MRT pillar caused blindspot they just passed (without noticing) (Source: Tampines is first town to have new dedicated cycling path )(Pict(mirror))

Point is that Sink@poor is like animal farm and PAP is in power because the cronies of PAP (state media) are well paid to spin glorious stories supporting the Emperor of Singapore.

My suggestion is that more MPs should dwell in HDB flats just as above 80% Singaporeans do, so as to understand the plight of the average Singaporean: rather than just forcing their policies down the throats of people and using state media to blow their own trumpets. The bike and pedestrian footpaths should be interchanged just as it happened in practise that Saturday afternoon: to give pedestrians shade from the afternoon sun and cyclist a straight line of sight so that they can better avoid collisions etc given to their faster travelling speed.

Whilst promoting cycling for health, environmental and economic reasons remains indeed a noble cause, the way it has been implemented under the Tampines SMRT tracks (number of pillar caused blindspots) leaves much to be desired (a footpath/ bike path designition swap (as it already operates in Saturday afternoon practise) would be a sensible choice).

When are Singaporeans going to stop complaining about everything under the sun and in the shade too?
