The idea of the Good Country Index is pretty simple: to measure what each country on earth contributes to the common good of humanity, and what it takes away. Using a wide range of data from the U.N. and other international organisations, we’ve given each country a balance-sheet to show at a glance whether it’s a net creditor to mankind, a burden on the planet, or something in between.

If you look at the individual categories, you'll see that Singapore ranks very highly at number 7 when it comes to prosperity and equality and for that you have to congratulate the PAP government for doing a fantastic job.

The overall score is dragged down by Singapore's low ranking in the influencing "world order". Given Singapore's size and location, it is quite understandable and you cannot blame the PAP for that.

I would like to congratulate LHL for a job well done. For such a tiny Island of less than 700km² to rank so highly despite it's physical limitations is truly a remarkable achievement.

only 7?

that's horrendous. it's so medicore for the most expensive politicians.

Singapore may have well paid ministers but because the government is very efficient, it is well worth the cost as it makes Singapore one of the best places in the world for starting and running a business.

Ireland is top? This ranking has no value at all.

I had to check to make sure it's not satire.

I thought it was rather incredulous too as Ireland has taken a hit since the financial crisis. However, there are many things going for it. I spent a lot of time in Ireland in the early 90s as one of our biggest customers had a factory there.

It was a dynamic and progressive country at the time and a great place to live despite the weather.

There will always be incompetent individuals in any society. They are not representative of the government as a whole.

As for CPF it is one of the best systems in the whole world and is being emulated by many other countries. The government needs no excuses. All it has to do is prove its worth by ensuring that the CPF minimum sum continues to rise in order to protect Singaporeans from themselves.

These are scums.....hide under ISA law which threaten us with detention without trail just like any tyrant state.

Many just want to get by only and forget about direct confrontation with them, unlike Roy.

They know justice will serve it's course and they will get their dues.

What's the use of having hundreds of millions and the world view u with disdain .?

The ISA is not used to threaten. It is used to keep Singapore safe. If it wasn't for the ISA, life would be a lot more dangerous for the average sinkie.

Some laws may not be popular or entirely fair but they have to be imposed for the greater good.

Nothing wrong with Ireland on top. On Saint Paddy's Day, the whole world feels Irish (at least the world we know) and drinks beer. On National Day, does the whole world feel Singaporean and eat char kway teow?

Cheers!

actually u got it mixed up,its not the category "world order" that u should be looking at,theres another category called "international peace and security"......i believe ireland sweden belgium and finland are small countries too and they contribute little to the world in terms of millitary power but their influence in "world order" is huge because of humanitarian efforts and research and scientist that deals in human problems and medical research and social and progressive changes.
