Earlier, Lam[John Lam] stood by what he told investigators about Kong, when questioned by Kong’s lawyer Jason Chan of his opinions. He had called Kong “a person of great integrity, one who only thinks of the church and not for personal gain”.
Mr Chan later withdrew the question, after prosecutors pointed out that if evidence of Kong’s good character was taken in court, the Evidence Act allowed them to call witnesses to prove otherwise.

Lam explained that in the early 2000s, CHC’s senior pastor, Kong Hee, also caught a vision to reach youth in Asia with the Gospel, particularly in cities like Taiwan and Hong Kong, where youth and young adults found pop culture and entertainment more relevant than the church.

In order to reach these youth, the church had to be relevant; hence the birth of Crossover Project. actually i dont see any crime here,is it any crime to screw stupid and willing people out of their money for a "noble" cause?its not like CHC church had a specific goal or mission in mind like NKF and they lied to people,they are just a goddam church that host concerts every now and then and sing hallelujah and praise jesus....

this case should be trialed at the supreme court of the catholic church of justice instead.....it is a case of morality and not legality.....

Well here's the thing. CHC is a registered charity or religious body . They can collect money for whatever is their mission so long as they use it to pursue that mission, call that saving souls if you must. As a registered charity or religious body, you do not pay taxes. If you use the money for intentions not connected with your mission , then you are committing an offense. Had Pastor Sun attempted to storm the Christian Contemporary Charts, CHC might argue she is still pursuing the mission. Cavorting with hip hop dudes wearing skimpy gear causes some doubts. So that's the crime apparently. CHC's defence consists of proving Pastor Sun was still on-mission in the US.

the crime is not screwing gullible people . The government does that every day. the crime is not paying taxes while screwing gullible people.

What they did was commercial fraud. They were using the donations collected for one declared purpose for another undisclosed purpose. To hide this misappropriation of funds, they used a process called round tripping. Made it harder for normal account and fiancé to follow and even auditors.
