Is it normal for so many to be declared bankrupted? I think it was much lesser a year ago.

bankruptcy in USA, the land of the free is nothing. They just start all over again.

bankruptcy in singapore, well, i feel sorry for them. If they were born in USA, things will be so different.

Singapore society is very unforgiving towards failure.

That is very little risk taker and no exceptional success in this country.

21 and above can bankrupt already.
Many are bankrupt by overspending on credit cards....I think now gambling will be number 1 reason.
Huat ah!

The debt from education loans is another killer. Good luck if you can't find a proper job after graduating.

Based on what I read, and know, the bankruptcy legislation in Singapore is very unforgiving.

In Canada, a majority of the personal bankruptcies do not require a notice in the newspaper, and the stigma is no longer there.
But there are many repeat bankruptcies, second timers, third timers, in the past decade, probably due to casinos and high credit card debt.
More and more seniors (age 65 and better) have also gone bankrupt.

More failing to repay mortgages on time - The number of borrowers with delinquent mortgages - accounts that have not been paid for more than 30 days - hit 4,186 in May, up 20 per cent from the 3,340 a year earlier, the Credit Bureau told The Straits Times.

The borrowers face delinquent mortgages before any spike in interest rates. We can only attribute this phenomenon to another 2 reasons:

- Poor yields/demand for residential rentals, just sufficient to cover loan-interests and maintenance fees.

- Speculators who bought their 2nd or 3rd properties in the last 2 years, will face Seller's Stamp Duties if they offload immediately. By definition "Taxes" are meant to be imposed on profits, but Stamp Duties (SD) apply to overall selling price. As such, this group of delinquent buyers are now contemplating whether to realize their paper losses + SSD or hang-on for a while more.

Walau you so cheap one har?

Cannot get a proper Job and pay back slowly? What is the hurry?

U nvr know the stress when in huge debt. But then there are some who carry NO STRESS.

Can some kind lawyer advise me on this:
I am still holding some $25k chqs since 25yrs ago in alleged bankcrupt's wife name.
How can I sue him?. Keep on saying he still on bankcruptcy. If I check that he is not,
can sue him ? Using wifey chqs?

Who is the debtor and who is the creditor?

For example, Mr. ABC owed you $25,000
Mr. ABC is a debtor
You are his creditor.
Did Mr. ABC's wife issued a chq to you in the amount of $25,000?

Is Mr. ABC bankrupt?
Is Mr. ABC discharged from bankruptcy?
Did you file a proof of claim (I am not sure what is the term in Singapore) supported by the relevant documents?
