Following the crash of MH17 which was apparently shot down while flying over eastern Ukraine, SIA posted a Facebook message to say: "Customers may wish to note that Singapore Airlines flights are not using Ukraine airspace."

It sparked an avalance of comments from netizens who blasted the carrier for being insensitive. An hour and a half later, SIA put up another posting, this time to say: "Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew of MH17 and their families."

What happening with this government? Even a simple thing like this have no idea what to do. When SMRT broke down, same company broadcast to their cabbies about the opportunity to make money.

This is the insensitivity of the younger generation, who have been brought up with a cock shafted into their mouths when growing up.

Old news liao, but yes, ridiculous. Absurd.

Firstly, the statement about "our thoughts are with ..." should have come first. Secondly, the first statement about not using the airspace is a LIE. A big, bad, outright LIE. Even if there is no internet, surely they know the media can drag out the incriminating evidence about the SIA flight routes and throw the egg right at their face. How can they be so bloody stupid.

SIA posted a Facebook message to say: "Customers may wish to note that Singapore Airlines flights are not using Ukraine airspace."

It's natural for SIA passengers who are taking similar routes to wonder if they may be in danger due to routing issues.

The quick response by SIA is appreciated by its worried passengers.

Everybody is playing a Russian roulette when flying over war zones. In this case a Russian really shot a plane down!

As fingers point at Malaysia Airlines for allowing flight MH17 to fly over a war zone, a German weekly news magazine has revealed that Singapore Airlines jets flew over the same eastern Ukraine area 75 times in the past week.

In contrast, MAS planes only flew over rebel-held Donetsk 48 times within the same period, Spiegel Online reported, citing flight tracking website flightradar24.com.

It said Russian airline Aeroflot flew over the area 86 times in the past seven days, Ukraine International Airlines 62 times, and Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa, 56 times.

“Overflights were recorded here in the past seven days in a radius of nearly 240km to the Ukrainian industrial city.
“In the ranking of the airlines, MAS is at fifth place with 48 overflights… the data shows that the region of Donetsk experienced brisk air traffic,” said Spiegel Online.

“Whether the attack (against MH17) was a random act or even a mistake, it could have, therefore, happened to the planes of various other international airlines.”

There is a way to phrase or word this to allay their fears. Just like the SMRT incident where taxi drivers are asked to go over to provide transportation.

I hope you are not honestly thinking that no mention should ever be made. It's like going on a first date with a girl and asking outright if she is ready to corpulate then and there.

Obviously passengers are apprehensive. And their fears need to be addressed.

It's natural for SIA passengers who are taking similar routes to wonder if they may be in danger due to routing issues.

The quick response by SIA is appreciated by its worried passengers.

There is a time and a place for every comment. The SIA response was childish at best, and just plain bitchiness too.
MAS is already the underdog where the airline industry is concerned - there was no need to kick it while it was (shot) down.
Worst, they were caught lying - stats show that they flew 75 times over the same route in the past 7 days prior to the shooting.
Their approach smacks of the PAP culture, alas.

enough of the Bushito from germans. SIA flew twice as much as MAS because they wanna keep standing by MAS all this while. now MAS has chosen to divert from this route, it is only natural SIA follow suit.

In the past we could say this is a one off incident. There are too many things happening to make one wonder at the quality of the management. This Facebook post is insensitivity in the extreme. I still like SQ but is clear they have trouble maintaining standards. Firstly, too many non-Singaporeans in the cabin crew who have absolutely no reason to have pride in the national carrier. Plus a perfunctory service which is not at all consonant with the prices they charge.
