Malaysia should look at the silver lining in this episode. Now the Russians will without any objections sell them the latest Migs armed with code sources good enough to sever LKY's intravenous line. The Russian military barn will be opened to the Malaysians for a big grab as much toys as you can carry. Almost free of charge.
Or maybe aeroflot willbe asked to rescue MAS?

Putin in his press conference today appeared sheepish and looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. The same hero who liked to show the world his bared torso while riding his horse.
hahaha...as expected the idiotic attention seeking whore must start a thread on this topic...showing his ignorance.....
and his PLP, debonerman, will cum in to lick his balls.....

this is quite clear a cock-up/mistake on the part of a some "rebels".....
and such thing has happened more frequently than most are aware...

in conflicts/wars......many soldiers had been accidentally killed by freindly fires.....
over the years, US drones have also killed many innocent persons accidentally....

in 1988.....a US warship, Vincennes (well trained with proper command struture) shot down an Iranian aircraft Flight 655 shortly after taking off from Iran killing all onboard including children....
before that (1983)....Korean Air light 007 was shot down by Russian fighter after it strayed into restricted Russian airspace.....

compare the 2 cases....1 was just taking off from an airport while the other had strayed into restricted air space....
who (USA or Russia) is more culpable???

truly a frog in the well....

I personally think it will be better for the rebels to own up than attempting cover up the obvious. Shooting down an airliner in times of conflict isn't going to be a war crime if proven that it not done intentionally. Israel and US had also committed similar act, they admitted to it and no one was ever charge for war crime. All the radio transmissions intercepted does prove that the rebels thought it was a military cargo plane and mistakenly shot down the airliner. The Ukraine govt and the west are just trying to extract maximum political mileage on this incident whilst ignoring the fact that Ukraine also have a liability in not closing their airspace knowing that the rebels had the missile capable of hitting planes flying at high altitude.

I agree. The moment the US owned up to the Iranian Airliner, things began to calm down. The US did not provide an excuse.

There is however one important to this incident. Arming rebels with these kinds of weapons are unheard of. The possibility of a Russian Unit deployed as volunteers a also a concern.

The real possibility is that now many routes now have become dangerous and no longer profitable to take a detour. Consequences are

There will be a shakeup in the aviation industry as certain routes become unprofitable and with high oil prices no longer sustainable.

With this incident, you cannot just avoid one area, you have to assume all conflict areas are now no fly zones except for small conflict zones where such weapons are not known to be available.

If we have to avoid flying over conflict zones there would be very few routes left.

I just could not believe that the Russians allowed mobile medium range missiles into the conflict. Bloody mad.

The height restrictions were set by the Ukraine authorities. Setting height restrictions at 32,000 feet doesn't make sense when the BUK can reach 70,000 ft. Not in an intensive conflict zone where 2 military aircraft were downed in the previous week.

The reason why this hadn't happened before is because rebels and insurgents are not normally equipped with high-altitude SAMs. They usually use portable shoulder-launched weapons which can only reach 15,000 ft.

Anyway, the Ukrainian authorities have now expanded the no-fly zone to entire airspace above the conflict zone. Egg on their faces.

The video where the BUK launcher is seen rambling across the border from the area with one of its four missiles missing was comical.

So far the Europeans and the Americans made it clear to their sponsors. Israelis after Osirak have made their pre-emptive option very clear as well. Hamas arse will be on a sling faster than you can say Singapore Independence.

Any planes flying over Israel? Does Hamas have these toys?

The US did eventually compensated US$300k for each of the victims in the Iranian plane. Definitely those Russian rebels could not afford to second that and I doubt Russia would even want to consider any form of compensation to the victims of MH17

When you board a plane, the airline will do a great show about how "safety conscious" they are. The flight attendants will scold you if your seat is not upright, your tray table is not stowed, your hand phone not switched off etc.

To save on fuel, these same "safety conscious" airlines will then happily fly you over a war zone with live SAMs.

Does someone see something wrong with this picture?

airlines cannot save you from everything. Only Air Force One has the defence against such missiles.
