Thick fog hits flights in and out of Auckland

A number of flights have been cancelled at Auckland Airport due to thick fog this morning.

The foggy start to the week has hit domestic flights the hardest, with 17 flights cancelled and six delayed so far, Auckland Airport operations shift manager Tracey Rata said.

One international flight, from Guangzhou in China, was diverted to Christchurch, and two flights due to arrive later this morning from Singapore have been delayed.

Commuters on the Northern Motorway at Tristram Ave this morning.

Meanwhile, 10 domestic arrivals have been cancelled, including Air New Zealand flights from Hamilton, Whangarei, Whakatane, Paraparaumu, Nelson, New Plymouth Napier, Palmerston North, Tauranga and Blenheim.

Six domestic departures have been delayed, while seven were cancelled. Affected flights include those from Nelson, Queenstown, Taupo, Blenheim, Palmerston North, Napier and Christchurch.
