How to Buy eBooks From Amazon

A lot of you are from non-US countries so you'd probably won't be able to buy ebooks from Amazon despite owning a Kindle. There are several ways around this, of which the main one involves creating several Amazon accounts, buying gift cards and transferring them etc to each other.

However, yesterday I figured out a method that simply uses a working Mastercard or Visa and a VPN (Virtual private network). It's probably a not a new thing but it was very useful to me and helped me to get an indie ebook from Amazon for $0.99. The key to all of this are these two sites:

Step by Step Guide:

1. First of all, download the VPN and install it. It's a relatively straightforward process and is quite simple. Once you're done, run the program and wait until it says PROTECTED. Click on the Test Protection bit to make sure you really do have a US IP address.

2. Next, Login to Amazon and click on the Manage your Kindle option.

3. On the middle of your left hand side there should an option under Your Kindle Account that says "Kindle Payment Options". Click on that and input your card number along with all the relevant details.

4. Then on the next page it'll ask you for your US address.
Use http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ to generate a random fake name and address. Use your REAL NAME but the fake address and phone number provided (or real number, your choice).

5. There might be additional step of choosing your country of residence (set to the US), but I'm sure you can probably figure that out yourself. Once you're done with that you'll be able to buy eBooks from Amazon now!

Notice that ebooks are now available for purchase. Make sure you only login to Amazon when your VPN is On. Otherwise Amazon might detect your change in IP and temporarily block your account. If you've got any problems or questions, feel free to post down in the comment box and I'll try to help.

That is the generic log-in screen...I see that too. Are you sure you can buy all & every kindle books through your Thailand registered account with Thailand credit card?

I have cleared cache, I have changed country...which made it worse...especially if it says SINGAPORE, you will be informed that certain digital content is not available in your country, due to.........!

Maybe they do not like "mee siam mai hum" government, censorship! Like I have said , I have a long email ding dong with Amazon on this, this subtly taught me the "gift me", trick!!.

SO, I was surprised that, you open a Thai Amazon Account & Thai Credit card, you are able to buy kindle books...surprised!!. Next, are you able to buy the Kindle Paperwhite device, with your Thai Account, & ship that to Thailand?? try & let me know.

1. I am not sure if I could buy "all & every" Kindle book however I was able to purchase the 4 books I planned to buy

2. I believe there is no such a thing as a Thai Amazon Account, all accounts I believe are simply Amazon account and the address is where and how you will register.

3. So now I have two accounts one is an old account which has my mailing and delivery address in Singapore and a Singapore credit card tied to it, this account is the one I could not use to purchase Kindle books.

4. The other account I registered yesterday with my Thai address and tied to my Thai credit card this account I am able to purchase the 4 books above yesterday. This is my registration of my account

So Halsey02 I am equally surprised as you that I could purchase from Thailand but then I am no more surprise when Scroobal show the list of countries able to purchase.

to answer joe, the answer lies in the convoluted concept of open territory and the cat and mouse game that publishers, retailers, and buyers go through with each country's licensing, censorship, and copyright laws that vary from country to country. for example, copyright to 1984 in the u.s. expires in 2044 while it has already expired in australia and canada. go figure. norway, a 1st world liberal country with easy laws, faces the same amazonian issue as another 1st world cuntry, sg.

Ha enlightened one, you answered my question completely. Cheers.

the example should be the other way round, where thailand is closed territory (where amazon honors the purchase) and sg is open territory (where amazon does not honor the purchase). a vpn tunnel may hide the "open territory" sg source IP address, but depending on other apps that are active, for example apps that derive location based on metadata from wi-fi access point and gps and inadvertently forward metadata inside tunnel, policing software with correlation capabilities on the server end may inadvertently deduce your true location.

the beef is mainly with publishers and their archaic method of doing drm. both amazon and google rely on onix metadata supplied by publishers to separate closed territories from open territories. including kobo, they cannot modify the metadata but simply comply with it. complying with it in their brute force algorithms may cause, except for kobo because kobo unlike amazon and google does not "un-download", all these cases of prior purchases being removed from buyers' devices simply because they cross into "open territories". that's inexcusable. at least, amazon and google should honor those prior purchases and leave them intact on the device even though device passes thru' "open territories".

that said, it's worth a test with the vpn. over a short time, however, i think other geo-based metadata on other apps will inadvertently sniff your device's actual location out.

In my post #4 in page 1, I showed my iPad mini screen with kindle reader, I was unable to download this app to read as all my apple devices are using the same Apple ID registered as a Singapore account. I needed to use one of my clones emaill address to register a new Apple ID now with my Thailand address and a Thai credit card then it allowed me to download this Kindle Reader app.

I am sure when I do visit Singapore and even without using StrongVPN I should be able to make a Kindle purchase sing local wifi . . . . maybe if I don't stay long a few purchases should be ok. I'll try next time I back and report back.

Funny that Thais who probably don't read english, can order kindle books while Sporeans can't

I've never gotten a kindle because of all these restrictions. If there is a book I am interested in I would check if it is available as a torrent. Now that the clowns in parliament are tightening tightened up the copy right act, I won't be surprised if the ISPs blocks the torrent sites in the future.

Nothing that a VPN can't by-pass:smile:

Any good kindle books to recommend?

No gay books please thank you!
There's no such thing as "Kindle Books".

Books are books. The definition of "good" all depends upon what genre you enjoy reading.

You're a moron.

When people refer to Kindle books, they are actually referring to electronic books issued under the Kindle Brand, which cold be read on Kindle devices & even iPads etc... & iBooks are electronic books, sold by APPLE, read only on APPLE devices..then we have those by Barnes & Noble..etc..

The person who wrote any good Kindle books to read, obviously is not a book reader of any form...or that person would not be a numbskull, to ask that kind of question..
