Interesting quote from a FT...

...
I think that is at the core of it. Most SGns never get responsibility, autonomy, over their own lives. They're perpetually beholden to someone else who tells them precisely what to do. That is so culturally and politically embedded I don't see it ever changing. And that is why despite the periodic anti-FT chest-beating from the government, the government will continue to need us - and they know it. Ironic; they can't do without us because their own political ideology does not allow locals to think creatively/out of the box, so they flamboyantly 'tilt at [FT] windmills instead', for public effect, whilst hoping to God we don't leave...
Singapore Expats Forum View topic - Looking at an opportunity in Singapore - Help?

The political caste system in Sinka@poor is what the kindly foreign talent is describing in "culturally and politically embedded". Due to the ever ballooning gods class (PAP ministers etc), Brahmin caste (includes PAP MPs and other white horses), there is ever growing need to fill other castes (in a rigid caste system) since the lowest cast (Singaporean's) are NOT reproducing themselves due to life miseries and other stresses in life etc.

How the Indian Caste System is adapted and well established to operate in Singapore.

Re thread (A1): Pay ministers millions of dollars so they will not corrupt LOL can we buy intergrity?
A person who serves the public, teachers, judges, policemen, firemen, ministers, MPs i believe has to have integrity, sincereity, selflessness and some degree of compassion for the people they serve.
I do not think such traits and characteristics can be bought or even be kept in line using the rule of law because as soon as the cat is away, the mouse comes out to play.
I think what the PAP ministers agreeing with each other and patting each other's backs saying that they need to be paid top dollar for their public service so that they wouldn't corrupt is more or less saying that they would DEFINITELY corrupt if good money is not paid to them, isn't it???
So how did we get conned by those words "We need to pay our ministers well so that they would not corrupt" ??? Did we just accept a form of excuse for the mediocrity handed to us??? LOL cos many singaporeans believe the excuse given. (at least 60% do)
Now go ask yourself really can all these qualities be bought? I do not think so, if u think they could be bought, then u might actually be paying a bunch of crooks to act with integrity, isn' it?
What do u think?
To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity - Douglas Adams

The caste system in India
In Sinka@poor, PAP Ministers and MPs are are Brahmins(clergy and priests.), PA staff members who report to PAP MP/ losing MP candidates are the 'Kshatriyas'(warriors).
Foreign talents come in two forms: skilled traders tradesmen (Vaishya) (PMET/ EP holders) vs unskilled workers/Shudra (work permit holders), the former treated BETTER than citizen PMET (Pariahs/Harijans), the latter (WP holders) somewhat a bit worse since a large slice of pay (up to S$1050 p.m. going to WP levy)(but they are temporary foreign workers whose cost of living at home is lower).
Most Singaporeans are Pariahs/Harijans(outcaste/ untouchables): nobody will employ a $inkie as PMET unless he is exceptionally qualified: why hire a $inkie and end up inflating your labour COSTS by at least 17% (employer CPF contributions to $inkies provident fund): when the employers of foreigner PMET are exempt from all employer levy of ANY form; not least the $inkie being frequently called back for reservists/ remedial IPPT training that foreigner PMET are not burdened with. Outcast $inkies (Harijans) too old to do useful work with dismal CPF savings if ever access able are given phantom jobs by the grave of the Brahmin class which drafted 'dependency ratio' employment laws so that these outcast Harijans could earn some subsistence salary basically doing nothing at all (their job is to keep out of public sight and pay homage to Brahmins always).

Thus, just as our ancestors prayed to the sun god for good weather and the rain god for bountiful crops, we pay homage to the PAP, our only good luck charm that turned mudflats into a metropolis and we BELIEVE our leaders when they tell us that poverty DOES NOT exists in Singapore (which is what our itchy ears want to hear). We reward our spiritual leader 'Pinky' with ceaseless showers of $$$.

Anyhow, when MP Lim Wee Kiak called for Minister salary increase to elicit raising CEO eyelids, 60.1% of $inkies instantly opens their wallets to raise Minister's salaries... These folks cannot see the increasing wealth divide: I wonder what is the next step, the casinos have brought Singapore's GDP to the next level as well as a new benchmark for ministerial salaries. Perhaps drugs and prostitution will make the world congregate here to boost GDP sky high.

Rules that Harijans (outcast, I.e. Sinkaporeans) MUST follow:...

Subjecting our Brahmin priest to 'indignity' by a pay lower than the highest paid Kshatriyas will bring us bad karma:.
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."

Brahmin leaders always have such easy jobs outside earning Ang pow from blessing cows, new businesses, performing rain(lion/dragon) dances that we actually have to drag them into parliament to serve as MP for a 'paltry' salary:
'Without some assurance of a good chance of winning at least their first election, many able and successful young Singaporeans may not risk their careers to join politics,' Mr Goh Chok Tong, June 2006 ['GRCs make it easier to find top talent: SM'].

[Pict= Disassembling GRC system benefits PAP (Part 1 of 3)]

Do not offend a Brahmin leader cos the blackmagic he can amass is very strong, (including the magical ability to fix people up):

Never take any legal action against a demi-god 'Pinkie', even the Attorney General (a 'Kshatriyas') is a staunch deciple, if not worshipper of the demi-god: 'Pinkie'....

Lastly, never forget, Pariahs/ Harijans/Outcast (citizens not qualifying for a/m political positions) are ALWAYS fated to slog, just remember that U are NOT a Brahmin by birth:...

angmo tuaki, and blow their own horn. nothing new, except i'm surprised they never replace all the americunts with cheaper russians by now. the russians are probably more creative than those nosey stuckups, maybe too creative, almost always criminal minded.

Singaporeans have this fear in them of making mistake. So, it is best to work less.
A lot of FTs will simply shift the responsibilities to someone else, but Singaporeans are more honest.

There is a Chinese proverb.
Do more things, Mistakes more
Do less things, Mistakes less
Dun do anything, No mistakes.

Good to blame PAP, they do not want chaos. They want people to follow standard operating procedures. Angmohs do things many times quite chaotic. Esp then they try to find shortouts to make their jobs easier.
