it's a privilege to sleep along hospital corridors. you get the attention of all medical staff walking by. air quality is better as you're not confined in a room or ward with stale air flow. when it's time for you to be pushed around, you're already at the hallway ready to go. always look at the bright side.

It's not even July yet, LOL!

I believe there's no shortage of Class A or B1 beds.

There's shortage of Class B2 and C beds because everyone wants to take advantage of the government subsidies.

I suggest that public hospitals should abolish the Class A and B1 beds. Leave these premium beds to private hospitals where they rightfully belong.

I remember Khaw Boon Wan is the minister who delayed the building of Jurong hospital back then. I heard about this Jurong hospital since late 90s but until now the hospital is still not completed. Just going to complete soon this or next year.

Such a long wait for a new hospital, and there is only one new Khoo TP hospital since late 90s until now? No wonder the hospital is bursting at the seams, especially with the population explosion.

This is not unique to Singapore by any means. If you emigrate to OZ or NZ or UK, you will face exactly the same situation.

The problem is not caused by governments. It's caused by members of the public abusing the privileges of the health system.

Doctors warn of corridor care

Cathy O'Leary and Daniel Emerson, The West AustralianUpdated July 3, 2013, 6:40 am

UPDATE: Premier Colin Barnett has defended a hospital practice dubbed "corridor care", arguing that it is not compromising patient care.
It comes after the Health Department confirmed Perth hospitals have been forced to install extra power points and emergency bells in ward corridors to cope with having more patients than beds.

Doctors claimed the move - known as going "over-census" or having more patients than the beds allowed - was used routinely at several hospitals to avoid the bad look of full emergency departments and ambulance ramping.

Mr Barnett said it was "clearly undesirable" but said he knew from personal family experience it did not result in lesser levels of patient care.
"But there is no doubt that the growth of WA, population growth, ageing, more conditions being diagnosed and therefore requiring treatment, there's big demand on our hospital system and I think any fair-minded person would have to acknowledge this Government is virtually rebuilding the public health system,” he said.

Mr Barnett said bigger and better hospitals would help.

The Health Department confirmed the practice after sources told The West Australian about the use of "corridor care" - patients kept on trolley beds in the middle of rooms or in hallways at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

On Monday last week, ambulances ramped outside Perth hospitals for a total of 242 hours, including more than 90 hours at Royal Perth Hospital.
A department spokesman said public hospital wards went over-census to ease pressure on full emergency departments and reduce ramping.

A&E patients 'being left on trolleys in corridors'

Growing pressure on casualty departments means emergency patients are being housed in cardiac and other wards

Patients attending accident and emergency wards are being abandoned on trolleys in other parts of hospitals without nursing supervision because there is nowhere else to put them, according to nurses and doctors .

Patients who arrive at hospital needing emergency treatment are increasingly having to spend the night in units designed for people undergoing heart surgery or having broken limbs plastered because A&E units are under such pressure and have too few beds to cope with the growing influx of people needing care.

The disclosures, from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) – which is holding its annual meeting in Liverpool this week – as well as the body representing A&E doctors, dramatically highlight the NHS's struggle to cope with increasing numbers of emergency patients caused by a combination of winter pressures, the ageing population and cuts to social care support.

They abuse meat and eat and eat until so fat and unhealthy. Japan is not like this.

Evidently the subsidies given to patients in B2 and C class wards have been too generous! It is time to reduce these benefits to discourage homeless peasants from bunking in our public hospitals.

The other governments didn't boast that their system is world's best. Our government did. LKY whacked up NHS after his wife's incident and toot the horn on sinkapore's health care system.

Having experienced both the NHS as well as the Singapore system, I would have to say Singapore is better.
