huat ah! reservoirs in santa clara county are filling up as rain hit the area the last 2 weeks. in fact some reservoirs such as stevens creek and vasona have to let out water as they fill to capacity. lexington is also letting out water. 2 weeks ago it was only 47% at capacity. now it's over 100%. 69% is the typical fill 6.9 days after a heavy rainfall period as they need to make room for more rain towards spring. water released will go to the ground and bay.

What about lake Mead? When I was there in 2009 it looked pretty bad and it was starting to look even worse in 2016.

lake mead is bad as it's near vegas in the dryiest region in southwest. the region from los angeles to palm dale to lancaster to san bernardino to palm springs to the california border with nevada at vegas is one of the worst in terms of precipitation and ground water, besides the devastating 5-year drought. death valley is not too far north. lake mead is now 146.3 feet below its full capacity of 1229 feet msl. with some rain and snow melt, it rises a bit by 0.17 feet which is not much.

for the first time after 5 years all major reservoirs in santa clara county are above 100%. and water districts cannot release water fast enough to creeks as intake outpaces outflow and dams are not designed to hold 100% for too long.

sinkies, please don't kum and kpkb. you'll not be able to handle the severe ponding and flash floods.

the very wet "atmospheric river" that just passed over california from friday to today is going through nevada and arizona and should pour tons of snow at the sierra nevada and rain at the nevada-arizona border where vegas and lake mead are. there's flooding going on in the bay area right now, specifically along coyote creek in san jose, due to spillway overflow at anderson reservoir. have dozens of pics to post as i cycle along trails near the creek in all weather conditions.

underpass getting inundated....
