Do you know why Singapore celebrates Labour Day on 1 May but USA does not?

Singapore is one of the countries that recognise not just the importance of workers which is obvious but the centrality of labor in the system. Workers comes first because labour will always be the vast majority in a society until the day we get robots to do all the work. America is a capitalist where everything revolves around money and the creation of money. There money is king not the workers.

Singapore celebrates labor day on 1 May because the founding fathers of our nation saw the fallacy of putting money above the people. These founding fathers included pioneers such as Devan Nair and David Marshal who created the Workers Party of today. There was consensus among the PAP founders andthe other parties that fought for independence that people....the workers comes first. That was why the PAP was name People's Action Party ....and David Marshal called his party Worker's Party no doubt guided by the wisdom of Jewish diaspora which lived through many systems for thousands of year. People and Workers....the centrality of labor not money were the principles laid down by founders of modern Singapore who fought for independence from the British. They knew too well that the people after breaking free from
the enslaving nature of colonialism can easily be trapped again.

Today we look at Singapore and as we celebrate labor day on 1 May who have to ask ourselves, what is the status of workers in our society, Today Singapore dresses itself up like an American Barbie Doll to attract wealth and become playground for the rich. Our leaders formulate policy based primarily on economic consideration of GDP growth. Singapore workers suffer from low wages, high stress and a general lack of protection, Employers use hire and fire practices treating workers like expendable Kleenex. Singapore workers have the lowest share of GDP among all workers of developed countries. Foreigners are brought in to suppress wages of labor. The cost of housing and other basic necessities have increase much faster than wages .
What is the position of workers in the system today?

Under the 2nd and 3rd generation of pap leaders who failed to adhere to the principles laid down by our founding generation. This has created a society with the highest income inequality in the developed world. Benefits of our economic growth goes to a minority elites of our society who award themselves and those connected to them the highest salaries in the world. Labor Day reminds us of our roots and the basic principles that Singapore has to come back to. We threw out colonialism to find our freedom and self determination ...not to put back on new shackles by creating and elite monied class to lord over us.

Do not blindly celebrate 1 May Labor Day today. Pause and think about its true meaning. Do not believe the words coming out of the puppet whom they installed as unuin chief for under him, workers have suffered and their status has been eroded.
