Old PAP verses new PAP

Always a bit surprised when people say the old PAP was terrific and did a great job, while it is the new PAP who messed up and let in too many foreigners.

The old PAP introduced streaming at Primary 3, race based and ethnic based help groups, used ISA on opponents, and started the great CPF lockup starting in 1984 - the pivotal year that saw a massive tide turn against the PAP. The old PAP also introduced eugenics and the graduate mother scheme. Their policies cemented deep cracks in the fabric of society that would not emerge until decades later (meaning now).

Goh Chok Tong introduced asset price appreciation model for property development in Singapore, in essence using land price inflation to stoke property price inflation and using that model to convince Singaporeans a house is an investment vehicle no different from stocks and shares.

A disturbing trend beginning in GCT's era and which has continued until the present day is that Singaporeans started becoming less color blind with respect to race. In the good old days, true blue Singaporeans were truly color blind.

The economy grew at a terrific pace under old PAP and a rising tide lifted all boats, but it won't be fair if we pretended they were saints. Every blade has two sides. Let's acknowledge both, please.

i dont think Singapore is the result of PAP policies....more like this country is the result of a bunch of daft and stupid people.....u can tell a country's culture by what the people are like.....for example australians place great emphasis on individuality, personality, adventurous, creativity and self expression........sinkies are a bunch of kiasu kiasee kiabo people whose identities revolves around grades, scores, rankings, society status, meaningless titles, money and material objects.this in turns produce a society of robots that do nothing but grind at their jobs or schools day in and day out in order to reach the next ranking/score.

1985 was the high water mark for the country. After that everything began to slide.1985 was when PM met Ho Ching and married her that year. 1985 was when Richard Hu was appointed Minister of Finance and he reigned supreme for 16 years until 2001 and set the stage for what we are now. He introduced GST, gave POSB to DBS and watched 2 of old man's brothers siting on the board of public listed companies doing interesting things which led to complaints to the Stock Exchange. 1985 was also the year the country named its first DPM as part of the country's first renewal of leadership and GCT was the one. 1985 was the last year when CPF reached its highest since its first increase in rates occurred in 1968. 1985 was the when the economy took a nose dive and the first wave of large scale retrenchments began. 1985 was also when Malaysians in the University graduating class had their 2 year bond for using Govt subsidy waived and they were allowed to return home. 1985 was when emigration to OZ, NZ and Canada shot up when people displaced from work and facing reducing opportunities began to seek a new life abroad. 1985 was also the year when 18 year Winifred Teo was founded raped and murdered at Old Holland Road and Singapore was no longer safe as it once was. The 1985 murder was also the first major case that the Police failed to solve after a string of successes over many years. It remains unsolved to this day. 1985 was also the year that the first HIV/AIDS case was identified in Singapore. !985 was the first time that the transport became a national issue when Taxi shortage during peak period in the evening became a sore point. To this day, Taxi's hiding in order to take advantage of the higher charges later continues. 1985 saw the Stock Exchange closed for 3 days to avoid a collapse of the market. It also led to the KLSE shutting for 3 days as well. 1985 was when the last non-elected President Wee Kim Wee took office. Every other President, all elected had issues of some kind.

Anyone born in 1985?

After 1986 hotel new world tragedy, there was a report about a couple of HDB blocks having structural integrity issues (deep cracks, etc). Got a little worried but luckily no major incident thereafter.

Now tiles are popping out of brand new HDB flats, doors cannot lock properly, due to foreign workers not doing a proper job.

Not too mention kiam siup n die dont want face...and due to the fact tat spore is hokkein dominated..this is the end result. Most places where hokkeins are a majority is always like tat. Jakarta n indon, manila and Philippines, Taiwan and Singapore. The only exception is Penang..but i think cos the main language of the chinese in mudland is cantonese...so it mitigates the 'fuckupness' of hokkeins...

The old PAP was draconian, but when it comes to basic stuff such as transport, water supply, healthcare and border security etc, it did an okay job.

The new PAP is filled with retards and selfie whores coasting along on its own reputation and hype. Its not unlike David Moyes at Manchester United.

Since the day they made their finical benefits into top of the world order, the decline of the PAP reign has begun.
My feeling is that good people started avoiding associating with PAP, and more opportunists joining PAP.
In professional circle, especially medical doctors are very reluctant to be PAP MP because his or her colleagues could tease and joke about him/ her becoming PAP yes-man.
