The context here is about describing past or future scenarios that are far too contrary to the election results have shown.

Opposition parties do not win most of the seats they contest. Those who do not say they have won when they lose will gain my respect more than those who do.

KJ is a complete disaster. He has not done a single thing to correct his flaws. He should stick to being a political observer and comment of the economy.

I don't think most people can recall about the events that followed the capture of the 3 seats. How Ling made a fool of himself in Parliament, the management of the 2 constituencies etc. The people in those constituencies had a different opinion when it came to the next elections.

Same lah sroobal... most ppl cant recall why Chiam left the SDP or that he was even the founder of SDP! Likewise why JBJ had to leave or how LTK took over WP.

It depends on how you are "smeared". If you go about doing what you should do and get "smeared", it can invoke sympathy for your opponent.

If you go into hunger strikes over inconsequential reasons or a multitude of protests and demonstrations and expect not to get hauled up, it is impossible because every government that exists on earth does that to protesters.

You are right that the Chiam incident slowly gets forgotten as the younger generation are growing up but also by having stopped these activities, SDP's votes are improving slowly and steadily.

WP gets "smeared" over hawker centres and trade fairs but let's see what's the impact in 2016.
