An alleged plot to oust some Birmingham head teachers and make their schools adhere to more Islamic principles is being investigated.

A letter detailing the plan, known as "Operation Trojan Horse", claims responsibility for leadership changes at four schools.

These schools are Adderley Primary, Saltley School, Park View School and Regents Park Community Primary School.

The letter, which purports to outline "Operation Trojan Horse", has subsequently been sent to at least another 12 schools in the city - all believed to be vulnerable to takeover.

It states that parents could be encouraged to turn against the leadership team if they are told the school is "corrupting their children with sex education, teaching about homosexuals, making their children pray Christian prayers and [carrying out] mixed swimming and sport".

The head teachers of the schools met Birmingham City Council on Thursday to discuss their concerns.

The letter, seen by the BBC, was apparently written by someone in Birmingham to a contact in Bradford, and goes on to outline ways and means by which schools can be taken over.

It says: "We have an obligation to our children to fulfil our roles and ensure these schools are run on Islamic principles."

Although the authorities have been aware of the alleged plot since November, the details have only become public now thanks to the letter which has been widely leaked.

Finding anyone who is directly involved and prepared to go on the record has also proved difficult.

No-one wants to be called an "Islamaphobe" or a racist, nor do they wish to be labelled a right wing conspiracy theorist.

There's also a sense of fear among potential whistleblowers that speaking publicly will mean an end to their careers.

It is understood that would mean a greater emphasis on religious studies, as well as girls and boys being taught separately in some classes.

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson confirmed the letters had been received and that an investigation was ongoing.

A British teenager who "died in battle" in Syria has been described as a "martyr" by his father.

Sussex Police said they received information on Monday that 18-year-old Abdullah Deghayes, from Brighton, had been killed "in recent weeks".

The foreign secretary has urged Britons not to fight in Syria and police say they face arrest on their return.

But Abubaker Deghayes said his son was in Syria with his two brothers to fight a "dictator" and was not a terrorist.

Abdullah Deghayes is not the first Briton to die fighting alongside anti-government rebels in Syria.

Around 20 are believed to have been killed since the conflict began there three years ago. But he is one of the youngest.

More than 400 British Muslims are estimated to have gone to fight in Syria, with just over half that number returning to Britain.

More than 30 have been arrested on their return, mostly under suspicion of joining proscribed, Al-Qaida-linked militant groups or taking part in kidnappings.

For many young men like Abdullah Deghayes, outraged and radicalised by atrocities they have seen on the internet, the government's words carry little weight compared to the lure of fighting jihad and seeking what they see as a noble martyr's death.

At his home in Brighton, Abubaker Deghayes said he had heard of his son Abdullah's death though Facebook.

He said: "As far as I know, Abdullah went to Syria - without my consent or his mother's consent - to fight in Syria against the dictator [President Bashar al-Assad].

"He was killed in a battle, as far as I know."

He said one of Abdullah's brothers, Amer, 20, suffered a bullet wound to the stomach in the battle, while another brother, Jafar, 16, was unhurt.

"I never encouraged him and he went there of his own free will," Mr Deghayes said.

"I am sad for the loss of Abdullah, but at the same time, I can feel some comfort as he went for a just cause.

"I hope he's in peace. Neither Abdullah or his brothers are terrorists."

He said his son, who lived with his mother in Brighton and was due to go to university in the city, left the UK in January.

Authorities in Austria believe that two teenage girls who vanished from their homes in Vienna on April 10 may have been tricked into going to Syria to fight for the Islamic rebels.

The first hints of where Samra Kesinovic, 16, and Sabina Selimovic, 15, went were a number of social media posts claiming the girls had gone to fight a “holy war.”

The girl’s parents told the Dnevni Avaz (Daily Voice), a newspaper in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that the pair had left behind letters in which they said they were going to Syria to fight for Islam.

Sabina Selimovic’s father said she had left a letter hidden in her books which read, “We’re going to fight for Islam. See you in Jannah, there is good, there is the eternal world.”

New photos on their Facebook pages show them holding Kalashnikov automatic rifles, and in some cases they are surrounded by armed men. In their latest post, they said they were going to get married so they could become “holy warriors,” according to the Daily Mail.

It is believed the girls had recently started going to a local mosque run by a radical Imam, Ebu Tejma.

The girls come from Bosnia refugee families who settled in Austria after the war in the 1990s, but both were born in Austria.

Schools in the West are far too liberal and incorporating Islamic principles is probably a good move in the long term. It will teach children that it is not OK to have premarital sex at 13 and for males to indulge in sodomy from a young age.

Around 250 British jihadists have returned to the UK after training and fighting in Syria, a senior Whitehall security official told the Sunday Times. Security services are monitoring the “extremist tourists”, fearing they might carry out attacks at home.

Ministers have been informed that more than 400 Britons went to Syria to engage in militant activities, and “Well over half of those who traveled out have come back,” the official told the Times.

Senior security officials say the number of “returnees” is now five times the previously reported figure, highlighting the growing threat of so–called ‘extremist tourists’ going to warzones and returning home hardened militants.

"For some, their jihad is done, others will help others travel to Syria, while others will raise funds for fighting," the Whitehall source said.

The security services are said to be closely monitoring the 250 returnees, who include several veteran hardliners who have fought in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Many others have participated in combat or received training in munitions or other skills applicable to terror operations, with some exhibiting a willingness to carry out attacks in the UK, security officials cited in the report said.

Reports of the returnees come after the details regarding the first suicide attack carried out by a British national in Syria were made available.

Abdul Waheed Majeed is believed to have driven an explosives-laden truck into a jail in Aleppo earlier this month, joining the 20 British citizens to have died fighting in the Syrian civil war.
