Prior to the 2011 review, the listed maximum is 25 months plus 13 mths but there is also a Special Variable Component where there is no cap. After the review its 26.5 mths including annual fixed salary and the SVP with no cap still remains. In the corridors of power it was justified on the need to have a sign-on bonus for those who made more in the private sector.

The salary of ministers is public knowledge and the bonus range is also public knowledge so the public will be aware of the maximum amount a minister can earn.
