A 41-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court accused of pelting eggs at Rwandan president Paul Kagame during his visit to Dublin last month.

Papy Ekolongo, who has an address at Avondale Park, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15, has been charged under Section Six of the Public Order Act after his arrest during a demonstration.

It is alleged that he engaged in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace at St Stephen's Green North on March 23 last.

During the hearing at Dublin District Court yesterday, defence solicitor Tracey Horan told Judge Michael Walsh that she was seeking disclosure of prosecution evidence. Mr Ekolongo remained silent as his solicitor asked for an adjournment to allow consultation time.

Judge Walsh ordered unemployed Mr Ekolongo, who is on bail, to appear again in two weeks when he will be expected to enter a plea.

Free legal aid was granted to the accused, who could face a fine, a three-month sentence or both.
