Snatch thief arrested

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 48-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of snatch theft which took place along Keong Saik Road.
On Apr 12, 2014 at about 10.50pm, a 65-year-old woman was walking along Keong Saik Road when the man walked towards her and snatched her handbag containing a mobile phone, $600 cash and EZ-link card. He fled with the handbag and she lost sight of him.
Officers from the Central Police Division responded to scene upon receiving the report. Through extensive ground enquiries, the officers managed to establish the identity of the man.
The officers mounted an operation and arrested the man at Banda Street on Apr 16, 2014 at about 4.30pm.
If found guilty, the man can face up to seven years' of imprisonment and caning.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan, commended his officers for their excellent investigative work which led to the arrest of the suspect.
He added that members of public should remain alert of their surroundings and be wary of suspicious persons loitering near them. They should also avoid ostentatious displays of wealth, for example, wearing expensive jewellery or exposing large amounts of cash in public, to avoid falling prey to such criminals.
