Our rebuttal to Jeremy Monteiro in defense of the Philippine independence day celebration to be held on 8 June 2014 at Ngee Ann City:

1. Jeremy did not mention that the Singapore National Day celebration was held in Bangkok at a hotel's ballroom. This is in accordance to normal diplomatic protocol in such events should either be held indoors or within embassy compound.

You do not celebrate Singapore's National Day in the streets of New York's Fifth Avenue or London's Canary Wharf.

2. The Pilipino Independence Day Council Singapore (PIDCS) promotional poster for the event implies the Republic of Singapore is vassal state to the Philippines.

3. There is no mention that Singaporeans are welcomed to attend the event. Organizers explicitly used words such as "Our" to stress that the event is target on Filipinos in Singapore.

Obviously these foreigners do not understand the local sentiment against them and so does the PAP for allowing such event to be PUBLICLY celebrated on the streets.

Even Americans celebrated 4th July at American Club, a private club.

If all nationalities decide to celebrate PUBLICLY, what will Singapore become?!?

Upcoming Independence Day celebration of OFWs offends Singaporeans
by Mary Rose A. Hogaza
April 15, 2014 (updated)

A Singaporean on Tuesday aired his dismay over the plans of the Filipino community in Singapore to openly celebrate the Philippine Independence Day right on the state-island’s major shopping area.

In an open letter posted anonymously on The Real Singapore (TRS), a free online platform where Singaporeans freely express themselves without any form of censorship, the anonymous Singaporean said Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) should be barred from celebrating their national event on Singapore soil, specifically at the Takashimaya shopping complex in Orchard Road.

“Remind them that this is OUR LAND! We urge them, however, to do so in their own Embassy compound,” wrote the anonymous Singaporean.

The letter calls on other Singaporeans to air their concern to the Pilipino Independence Day Council Singapore (PIDCS), a non-profit umbrella organization of Filipino Community in Singapore.

The nameless Singaporean also complained about the PIDCS’ poster for the event which used the Singapore skyline with the words “Two Nations” and “Interdependence”.

“Singapore only observe and celebrate our own National Day on the 9th of August and we DO NOT and WILL NOT have a joint-celebration of ‘Inter-dependence’ with another sovereign state,” the anonymous Singaporean said, adding that the poster carries a message that the Singaporeans did not endorse.

The PIDCS immediately removed the words “Two Nations” in the poster after hundreds of Singaporeans protested against it including a certain Peter Loh who said: “How can our government allow this? Soon they may claim Spore as part of Philippines? For goodness sake you are but guests in OUR country! Do you celebrate you family birthdays in your neighbor’s house?”

The PIDCS plans to hold their event on June 8, four days ahead of the 116th Philippine Independence Day.

My Question to the PAP government is SIMPLE...If Chinese Embassy Ask for PUBLIC celebration of 10 October in Chinatown, will they also allow it?

I love it when such events are organized.

PAP's popularity is getting whittled down with every passing day. These events and incidents are catalysts.

Look here, you want to celebrate your independence day for your lil' country, that's perfectly fine. Do it in an auditorium or clubhouse or your embassy. Stay away from public spaces. Why? 鸠占雀巢 and 喧宾夺主 that's why. I suggest you find out the meaning of these two Chinese proverbs - they succinctly describe what's going on.

P.S: Fuck you Jeremy Monteiro.

Why Ngee ann city? Stay at Lucky plaza lah! :oIo:

They are taking cue from Russia's conquest of Ukraine, taking the country parcel by parcel. In this case, because the Filipinos have a shit armed forces, they send over their maids, customer service officers and freelancers to vassalise us one shopping centre at a time.

You will be thinking why 4 days earlier, until you realise June 8 is a Sunday...

This Jeremy Monteiro even got the audacity to call Singaporeans who complain as morons. He should get lost from Singapore! Go back to Philippine to work and live and they can celebrate as openly as they want!

And what has Philippines independence got to do with Singapore? Since when we have any special relationship with Philippines to celebrate inter-dependence? Any country in the world has inter-dependence with Singapore in the same way as Philippines. Ask Pinoys not to inflate their self importance and get lost!

When is Lee Hsien Loong going to start to scold foreigners for calling Singaporeans names? WHEN?
