Worker jailed nine months for molest

SINGAPORE — A construction worker who had inspected and carried out upgrading work at his victim’s unit was yesterday jailed nine months for molest.
Vadla Kandappachari, 38, was at a block of flats in Tampines in mid-January this year when he squeezed the breast of a 43-year-old woman who lived there.
After he had completed his work, the woman saw him and said farewell. When she turned around, the accused sprang an attack on her, grabbing her arms from behind and reaching for her right breast. The victim only managed to break free by biting his hand.
In his mitigation plea, the Indian national told the court that he deeply regrets his actions. One other charge of outrage of modesty in kissing her hand was taken into consideration for sentencing purposes. Kandappachari could have been jailed up to two years, caned and fined. Claire Huang
