New PAP faces in Aljunied GRC

Two new faces have surfaced at grassroots branches in Aljunied GRC, in yet another sign of the preparations that the People's Action Party (PAP) is making for the next general election.

Lianhe Zaobao and Lianhe Wanbao yesterday reported that they are Ms Chan Hui Yuh, 37, and Mr Kahar Hassan, 45.
Ms Chan confirmed she will be assuming the deputy chairmanship of the Serangoon citizens' consultative committee (CCC) next week.

In addition, sources told the papers that she is likely to replace Serangoon's PAP branch chairman, 60-year-old Poon Mun Wai.

In PAP wards, the election candidate tends to be the party's branch chairman.

Ms Chan is currently the chairman of East Coast GRC's Siglap CCC. She will concurrently hold both positions until next year before fully committing to Serangoon.

Asked why she is making the move, she cited the fact that she lives near Serangoon.

"I can cut down my travel time, and thus have more time to spend with my two young children," said Ms Chan, who has 12 years of grassroots experience and is a director in a construction firm.

But her move could also have something to do with the fact that the current MP for the Serangoon division is a woman - Workers' Party chairman Sylvia Lim.

Asked if she would stand for election, she said: "I believe in the party's values, and there are many ways to serve. If (party leaders) decide to put me in that position, I would definitely do my best."

The other new face, Mr Kahar, works at SMRT. He is the company's deputy director of infrastructure.

Mr Kahar is understood to be a member of the Kaki Bukit CCC. The division is currently under Aljunied GRC MP Muhamad Faisal of the Workers' Party.

The anchor Minister will be one who is expendable. Perhaps Yacoob Ibrahim, Lim Hng Kiang, VB or GCT. If anchor Minister wins Aljunied from WP, he willb e richly rewarded. If he loses, he will be Chairman of GLC or TLC eg SMRT or SBS and be rewarded through Singaporeans money

PAP can forget about Aljunied GRC next 10 to 20 yrs... Unless WP have another internal issues like what happen to SDP, they kick out CST many years ago. Which I do not think that will happen...

the reason for someone to want to run on pap ticket is greed. he doesnt really want to make life better for Singaporeans.

Once chosen by the pap he got it made for life whether he loses or wins the election. He will be rewarded with many high level positions in TLC, GLC, etc

look at quality of PAP MPs and Ministers. with such poor quality themselves, what quality can they attract?

look at LHL..you consider him good quality? as Charles Chong confessed, the pap can only attract 3rd grade quality candidates. and it is getting worse for the pap

Many think it's a fast ticket to riches and fame. Just look at the Young PAP useful idiots, the online PAP IBs, and those grassroots volunteers.

At least they are getting grassroots leader to represent them now.
But again, how much voice from the grassroots remains when you are require to conform to organizational culture, structure, expectation and party whip??

Here is she, back in 2012, giving her opinion about paternity leave immediately after the National Day Rally and supposedly just after giving birth to her second child.

Do you honestly think that ordinary peasants would standby to give media soundbites immediately after the event?

Mothers interviewed were certainly all for the idea. Ms Chan Hui Yuh, 35, believed it would level the playing field between men and women workers.

"It takes away the stigma of maternity leave for women," said the director in a construction firm who delivered her second child last week.
