Rumours are rife even here in Phnom Penh about the 370 fiasco. Here's the latest I heard.

From the offset of the incident, right about where the plane turned back off Vietnam, the pilot was already talking to the powers that be in Malaysia, principally to release Anwar. The plane then flew above 40K feet to knock out everyone on the plane, an action most probably initiated by the pilot. The plane then flew for a few hours in Malaysian airspace, still negotiating. We could only surmise that releasing Anwar is not a subject Najib wanted to discuss. The pilot then flew South and crashed into the deeps of the Indian ocean when it ran out of fuel.

That it is somewhere under 4,500m in one of the most treacherous sea must be a great relief for Najib who would like to see this episode put away, but it is not likely going to be as easy as Alantuya. China is baying for blood for her 100+ citizens, not doing so would be extremely unhealthy for Xi Jinping, who is embarking on a silent purge of political foes and, many suspect, in an endeavor to bring China back to the days of Mao Tze Tung. The Americans, with their sophisticated monitoring and listening are aware of the in-flight negotiations and tight-lipped of the entire incident, because Malaysia is deemed a 'conservative' Muslim nation and this is their chance to get on their 'right' side.

If it ever comes to light that the passengers of MH370 were sacrificed because Malaysia does not want to release Anwar, the consequence will be horrendous. Class action suits will be filed and USD10M per passenger will be awarded. The insurance companies will not be liable to pay. All in Malaysian stands to see USD3-5B burned. MAS will probably cease to exist, as will BN.

But, it is only a rumor.

But, WTF do I care?

All I know from this episode is that Malaysia is ......consistently INCONSISTENT

All said. we have to agree Malaysia screwed up, big time.

The Chinese are convinced they're hiding facts and they are understandably incensed. And the Malaysian clowns are not helping any to dispel that image. Meanwhile all the ASEAN nations are keeping what they're making of this incident tightly zipped up. ASEAN solidarity and all that.

To me, I certainly think they're shooting themselves in the foot, repeatedly. One bungle after another. Comical Ali pales besides them. God forbid if they're really hiding stuff, explosive stuff. There may be more than can be seen in the rumor about the pilot using the plane as leverage to free Anwar (not the details).

Time will tell. There are lots of brilliant journalists out there, unafraid of, UNBEHOLDEN to and unbridled by their governments. The truth can't be hidden for long.

Whoever is handling the PR news release should stop and reflect or get authorization before releasing the news. It doesn't help the Acting Transport Minister who is trying to repair the Damage to the country's reputation..... Everyone one wants their 15 second of fame like the BOMOH of the World, without pausing to think of the bloody consequence to the Country....

'...the Acting Transport Minister who is trying to repair the Damage to the country's reputation?' He's the cause of the damage to whatever reputation the country has left.

I think that "boat" has sailed. The military capabilities or lack of it were made known to the world in the first few days of the press conference, lack of sonar capability by the submarine purchase from France, radar range and capability limited...... Air Force lack of alertness..... Thank God the Indons are worse that Malaysia or Confrontasi 2 ..........

You are talking only of the inadequacies of the Malaysians. There are mind-boggling technologies monitoring the entire world up there with capabilities beyond imagination, knowledge of which suppressed by the owners - the Yanks, Chinese, French. Russians etc.

The Yanks and a number of countries routinely monitor cell phone calls, even encrypted ones, maybe especially the encrypted ones. They started monitoring communications from planes to ground after 911. These calls are not encrypted and should be child's play for them.

A lot is not revealed to the general public, maybe even to Najib. They must be shitting their pants knowing others knowing what they even don't.

Aussie PM Abbott 'very confident' that signals detected in MH370 hunt are from black box

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Friday he was "very confident" that signals detected in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were from the aircraft's black box.

"We have very much narrowed down the search area and we are very confident the signals are from the black box," Mr Abbott said from China, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The logging of a fifth signal on Friday spurred the hunt for missing Malaysian airliner MH370 as search crews work round-the-clock to find elusive wreckage in the southern Indian Ocean.

The Australian-led operation out of a Perth airbase is racing to gather as many signals as possible to determine an exact resting place for the Boeing 777 before sending down a submersible to plumb the depths.

The ping-emitting beacons on Flight MH370's data and cockpit voice recorders are expected to fade, more than a month after the plane, which was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, vanished on March 8 and flew thousands of kilometres off its Kuala Lumpur-to-Beijing route.

Both reports say that a jet was sent up when MAS reported the plane was missing at 8am. Hours after the plane turned back.

For best news coverage on the missing jet I recommend people tune in to CNN. They have better coverage than the other news services like BBC, CNA,...

Box box found as in retrieved?

Locating the BB is very different from retrieving it. If the reports are right, the plane lies some 4,500m below, in unknown terrain. It could be like the entire Himalaya range under water, or flat like a desert.

Air France crash took 2 years to find the black box, after finding the wreakage 2 years ago.

MH370 can find the black box without wreakage and just relying on widely publicized Inmarsat pings.

Also, it's unprecedented pigs can fly.
