The body of a temple medium was found in the sea off Changi Beach Park on Sunday morning, hours after he performed rites as part of the Qing Ming Festival.

The 35-year-old went to the park at about 1am on Sunday with devotees from the temple where he worked, Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported.

He then walked into the sea as part of the ritual and is believed to have been swept by the strong waves. Others from the group realised his disappearance later and tried to find him but gave up because of the darkness and strong currents.

Police were informed of the incident at about 2.45am, and conducted a search with the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Shin Min said the body was found by someone on a fishing boat about 1km from the coastline. Police confirmed that the body was brought to shore at about 9.45 am. The incident has been classified as an unnatural death and police are investigating.

Why did they need 1hr 45min to inform mata?
Since somthing amiss, dont they need some prompt action?

Really stupid.. Could be during high tide when they entered the waters and I think they could be more than 10 metres away from the shore..

Never ever enter waters during the night especially when during high tide.. Its very dark and visibility quite poor..

Reminds me of a working incident some years ago at East Coast.. A Malay professional diver was doing some underwater maintenance of a vessel.. He met with an accident and his body was later found few days later near to a beach in Batam..

It was reported that he was in a trance state when he entered the water..... probably not aware of the danger to his life...

Many glue sniffers drowned in the 80s/90s when they fell into water in a state of "high"..... I had always wondered why they like to go near water in their high state.....

in a trance means he was possessed? Possessed means controlled by a higher being? Then the divine being should have led him to safety? No?
