PM Lee’s answer to Sir Malcolm Rifkind’s question of whether Singapore’s incorrupt system was reversible:
“I think it is reversible but I think these values and this system is fairly well entrenched. The expectations from the public are there, so if something is not quite right you can be sure that somebody will sound the alarm.
And in this day and age, there is no possibility of these things – something wrong being kept secret for very long. Within the system there are mechanisms to make sure that if something is suspicious, it is investigated, and if something indeed is wrong, then consequences will have to follow.”
How many of you agree with what Hsien Loong said above? His version is that the daft Sinkies will whistleblow, will kpkb when something is not right. He also assumed that when the alarm is sound, the govt will be notified and will put it right.
In reality there are a few normal scenarios. One, the people can kpkb but the deaf frogs will not listen. Two, the right people will not kpkb as they cannot see anything wrong. So there is no need to sound the alarm.
“And in this day and age, there is no possibility of these things – something wrong being kept secret for very long.” Now now, how many things have gone wrong and have been kept secret for very long and will be kept secret for as long as the party is in power?
No? No such things? Do you agree?

Of course there is no corruption . No need for it. Our solution is brilliant. Not many people can follow it.

How can SG be corruption free? Peter Lim SCDF went to jail like many others before him. Difference is whether you get caught or you are smarter. Even the taxi uncle would advise you: When caught for any wrong doing, find someone to "cheow" for you.

Actions that are deemed corrupt is not in sinkapore. So, he is speaking the truth in the context of lala land.

Examples
SAF purchases swill from SFI to feed soldiers ...pays a bomb for the swill. Complaints to MINDEF is ignored. Why?
Paying $1 million in salary to minister for average results. Totally unacceptable in other democracy. Totally okay in sinkapore.
Pay $1 million salary to SMRT CEO when he publicly claim that it will take 5 years to solve current MRT issues.

I think you miss my point but never mind. Ever seen the Home Team ads " low crime does not mean no crime". One of our better public education messages I think. To paraphrase that " low corruption does not mean no corruption". By the way , as an aside, in my opinion PL may have been technically corrupt but more likely he was careless and stupid. Possibly overpaid and not sufficiently challenged at work.

To get back to our PM and his talk in Chatham House - I am not sure why as a first world country we are so proud to pay more than other first world countries just to ensure honesty. It only tells the western world we are morally inferior and we need to buy the honesty of our public servants. It may be necessary but nothing to boast about.

Talk is cheap. LHL should walk the talk, not talk the talk. LHL should require all members of parliament to make statutory declarations on their personal assets and assets of their immediate family members (wives, husbands, children, parents....) and such stat declarations should be public record.

''Within the system there are mechanisms to make sure that if something is suspicious, it is investigated, and if something indeed is wrong, then consequences will have to follow.”

So, all the Ministers/President n 60% indeed do not see something or anything wrong with the huge obscene salaries?? Other than prime properties, wonder how that $$ is being spent?? .........Its being shafted down our throats...............................nice intelligent cartoon; love it.
