Make taxi, not taxi driver, work harder. Agree?

Solution to make taxi work harder is to make cabbies share cab. According to Ang Hin Kee, taxi driver now drives up to 12 hours a day over 6-7 days a week. If there is a share-a-taxi system, there will be more relief drivers. I have personally met a cabbie who drove 24 hours and i thought that was absolutely crazy!! Yes work hard to support family but what if the health system breaks down? It is too dangerous.

I have a few questions running through my head...

1. What is the current practice for hiring relief drivers?
2. Shouldn't relief drivers be owned by NTA so NTA can distribute these relief drivers to cab operators as and when any of them need it?
3. Why are we lacking relief drivers? What is the disadvantage of being a relief driver?

I think it is good that they have more relief drivers, so that the cabs can be utilised to the max. Considering that cabs are by far the cheapest cars you can own in SIngapore, it is best to maximise their time on the road. This is especially when they are meant to serve the public. I hope more cabs can be found on the road.
Esp during peak periods, so hard to find cabs.

First find out why the taxi drivers are driving such long hours....money no enough that's why.

No relief drivers probably there's no money to be made driving short hours.
Typical arrangement now for relief is already 12hrs per shift each driver....so taxi is already working at maximum.

NTA is being politicised. 6 mp advisors there. Why n who voted them in?
Why are they wearing more caps ubneccessarily when many are jobless?

Actually, they know that many TD(hirer) are using cabs for personal uses. Fetch grandsons to
sch; etc. And weigh in the high COE too.

Compare to COE, taxi fares too cheap per trip.

Have 2 types of fares:

1. FTs pay 1.2 times more.

2. Local show IC pays 1.0.

3. Out of CBD cheaper; enter CBD 1.25 more.

4. Min take home pay recommended for taxi drivers around $70,000 and work out taxi fares around this $70,000.

5. Put together a professional package to present to parliament. All taxi drivers chip in to pay for the survey and market studies.

More importantly, taxi should not be COE payable. Go to HLP protests and march to Parliament.

Marketing, the keyword
Market taxi driving equal or no less than a professional job. Paint taxis in latest fashion colours and cool to ride. Drink on the house, ie inside the taxi. Taxi windows black in color so customers can petting only but no sex. Marketing anything to make taxi drivers earn $70,000 a year.

I am not so sure if it's being politicized. As long as they are doing their jobs, i have no complaints...

Why should FT pay more? i don't really want xenophobia in Singapore. Cab fares already expensive. Can we reduce rental rates?

Agree!...wasn't there an article that said there were 100,000 licensed taxi drivers in SG. I believe the number of taxis operated by all the operators is between 15,000 to 20,000 (maybe less). that is 5 available drivers per taxi!

What they proposed is already proof that these fucktards are out of touch and dunno what the real issues are

there was a time there were 3 of us to a cab daily, 2 on the ball including me and 1 always drive his way to the casinos. each of us share the rental of $100, i paid about $30 for my shift and take back about $100. i think NTA or LTA should micro manage the drivers to the cab to achieve full utilisation. so now you know why some cabs burst into flames...

After 3 decades or more, same old problems. There is nothing scientific about this combination - taxi, cabbie and passengers. So many scholars and grads, yet old problems still exist. Maybe we need ang mohs to come in and solve our problems.
