The remains of a seven-year-old boy, thought to be the victim of a confessed rapist and murderer, were discovered in an isolated region of Loei's Wang Saphung yesterday. The boy is believed to have been lured to the spot by his killer, while he was attending a merit-making ceremony with his parents on November 10.

Known only as "Nui", the man was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a six-year-old girl in Bangkok on December 6. He has since confessed to a series of grizzly murders involving young children.

Loei police began searching for the boy's remains on Tuesday, but it was only after talking to the confessed killer in Bangkok Remand Prison that they were able to pinpoint the location of the boy's remains with the help of maps and directions, said police chief Maj-General Sakda Wongsiriyanont yesterday.

Fifty police officers combed the area in Ban Noen Somboon, Nong Ya Plong sub-district, and eventually discovered what they believed to be the boy's remains in a fertiliser sack. The bones, including a skull, have been sent to Wang Saphung Hospital for examination before they undergo DNA testing.

The boy's grieving parents visited the spot yesterday where their son's remains were found yesterday. The father said religious rights would be performed, once they had received confirmation of the DNA tests results. He was, however, convinced the remains were those of his son and added that he wanted the killer to be executed.

Sakda said a tearful Nui drew maps of the location where he

lured the boy with the offer of sweets. He took the boy on a bicycle to the isolated hilltop, where he molested and strangled him. The next day, he returned and put the boy's body in a fertiliser sack, he told police.
