This is a very expensive plane the Russians and Chinese have already developed systems to counter it effectively to be on sale within 2 years.

One major selling point the stealth capability has already been nullified by Russian system at a fraction of the cost of one platform. Also.several.new missles.with long standoff has already been developed against it. Once we pay billions for F35 our adversaries can just spend one hundred million on these counter systems and eliminate any advantage. The F35 itself has numerous flaws and its effectiveness is questionable

it will a big blunder for singapore to buy F35

Chinese Military Ship Confronts U.S. Cruiser at Sea.

‘Getting Dangerous’

After a second Chinese ship sailed in front of the Cowpens and stopped, the U.S. vessel was forced to change course to avoid a collision, the Free Beacon said.

“It’s getting dangerous out there,” said Patrick Cronin, a senior adviser for the Asia-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security in Washington. “Accidents happen. People can get killed out there through these maneuvers. We need more efforts at ways to tamp down or avert crises as they arise.”

Cronin said the incident appeared to be a “tit-for-tat” response to the U.S. refusing to recognize China’s new air defense zone.

“We’re making them look impotent with respect to the ADIZ,” Cronin said, referring to the acronym for air defense identification zone.

By trying to block a U.S. ship, China is engaging in “coercive diplomacy -- it’s neither war nor peace,” he said.

You still don't understand.

It doesn't matter what counters what.

Singapore is still America's bitch, especially in matters of military cooperation.

Hence Singapore buys American military toys. Money goes one way, hand-me-down toys go the other, everyone goes home and have a merry Christmas.

Seems there are many reports that the F-35 have a lot of flaws and is too expensive. Worse if the potential enemies can buy something much cheaper that can counter the F-35. Singapore defence is deterrent and chances are they will never go to war. So may be better off getting more something cheaper that is easier to maintain and have some numerical advantage in the air.

you could be surprised that some of these planes might have paper made ones sold at real plane price to burn to old fart in near future.

On face of it illogical choice. The idea of confrontation with our neighbors is silly. Just mere threat of war (sable rattling, sanctions, military movement around borders), and all the rich foreigners TT $ out of country and leave. MNCs panic and shippers start routing container traffic to Hong Kong/Shanghai. Singapore as we know it is over. The idea of safe and stable - out of the window. No need to even fire 1 bullet.

So there must be another reason for wanting to spend this $. Maybe buy influence in US, maybe to join club and become part of some US SE Asia force. Probably something that simple folks like us cannot see.

But on surface does not make any sense.

Bingo. Thats the problem. They dun bother to spend some effort in cooking up a better reason. We are not alone with this issue.

Buying F-35 for deterrent and show only. Might as well buy the Iranian Qaher-313. Maybe they can try sucking the Ayatollah cock instead.

sucking US cock again. I think they're addicted to the taste

The PAP don't spend money unless they are expecting some kind of payback:confused:
Obviously many elites will get rich acting as middle men i.e kick backs:wink:

Have to wonder what other favors they expect:confused:

I have wondered why Spore has never been targeted for it's money laundering activities unlike the swiss banks:confused: It's no big secret what the banks in Spore are doing. There are also accusations of human trafficking. Spore helping chinese companies, .. etc. So maybe it's a bribe for the american to look the other way
